Hello everyone! I just discovered this forum, so I thought I'd join in and learn some things and meet some new folks.
I was born with nerve deafness, leaving me deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other. I wear aids in both ears and am able to manage in the hearing world. I am a senior (63 years old) and I just retired. What hearing I have is declining, which was one of the factors that led to my decision to retire.
Facing the inevitable, and now having lots of time on my hands, I want to do something that I've wanted to do for a long time.....learn ASL. So, I am looking for classes and have purchased a couple of books.
I live in Central Florida, so if anyone has any leads on where to get some good ASL learning or where I can meet other ASL users, please let me know.
I also enjoy Fantasy Baseball and my wife and I like to go on cruises. Finally, we love to visit our kids/grandkids, both in the area and in the Carolinas.
Thanks everyone,
Art

to AllDeaf forum. You mean to tell me that you have not use or never use ASL for 63 years, meaning all of your life. Oral deafie. Wow. Well, it is better to have ASL to study instead of saying what? or Huh? You miss Deaf Culture and Deaf communities so that you would be comfortable to communicate. There are oral members here who also want to learn sign or vice versa. So now that you are here, have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.
