New voice for the voicless - The Times of India
An association of persons with hearing and speaking disabilities will come into existence here on Sunday.
Explaining the objectives of the association -- Dharwad District Deaf and Dumb Association -- its president Satish Kolhapur said that persons with disabilities will be identified and programmes will be conducted to help them lead a normal life. It will provide information about various government welfare programmes for disabled persons. It will also link them to NGOs working in this respect.
The main objectives of the association: setting up schools and libraries for deaf and dumb, creating friendly atmosphere for them in the society, providing information about training in various skills to make them independent, organizing sports and cultural programmes and creating awareness about savings.
District minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the association at Town Hall here at 11 am in the presence of D Veerendra Heggade of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala and others.
