Was wondering if anyone knows if the new Verizon HTC Thunderbolt will for sure do, on Verizon's 3g "CDMA" type of cell phone network, the voice-over-data needed for "WebCapTel On the Go" (or similar on Hamilton).
What I mean is, will it do similar to what the AT&T Iphone3 & 4 will do with AT&T's 3g "GSM" type of cell phone network (GSM technology is compatible with voice-over-data, while CDMA technology is just becoming compatible with voice-over-data).
As you may know, the Voice-over-Data allows the words to come across the phone screen but you can still talk through the phone at the same time also.
I am not talking about Verizon's new 4gLTE technology, I mean the current 3g, because the 4gLTE is, I think, a ways off for most areas.
I have read that Verizon's Iphone4 will not do the Voice-over-Data needed for "On the Go" (on Verizon) but that the new HTC Thunderbolt will do it because it has the technology needed (a special chip) for Voice-over-Data on a CDMA type cell phone network like Verizon's.
I am trying to buy a new phone for a friend of mine that is about 80% hearing impaired but can talk pretty well. He was using a Krown Pocket VCO with his standard Verizon cell phone but now, in Nebraska, Verizon no longer supports using the relay service so he can't use the Pocket VCO any more.
He really can't switch to AT&T or Sprint because he lives outside the city and Verizon is the only provider with decent coverage out there.
I read that a CNET blogger contacted Verizon this week and they claimed that the new Verizon HTC Thunderbolt will do Voice-over-Data on their 3g network but would like to confirm this before he buys the new phone.
