A new Miss Deaf Texas has been crowned in what was a bittersweet ceremony this weekend.
Johanna Valente replaces Tara Rose McAvoy, 18, who was the reigning Miss Deaf Texas.
McAvoy was killed in Austin three weeks ago when she was hit by a train.
Investigators believe she was text-messaging on her cell phone.
"I have very mixed feelings. One thing -- I'm sad. I'm glad because I'm going to be doing this for Tara," Valente said.
McAvoy was supposed to compete in the Miss Deaf America pageant in July.
Valente will now go in her place.
