Hi all,
34 yr old female here from the UK
I have been deaf for 10 years now, since then I have had hearing aids for both ears. It has been a love hate relationship with the hearing aids.
I still don’t like that term deaf, since it makes me feel disabled, since before then I had pretty good hearing.
I had ear problems when I was younger so I could have had a mild loss when I was younger but not sure.
Anyway, being deaf has been a journey with all the appointments and emotions.
I still haven’t fully accepted that I’m now considered deaf (have a hearing loss).
Because of that I would rather be classed as hard of hearing since I’m not fully deaf.
I’m not sure where I belong.

Haha, same here. I have severe hearing loss in both ears and I wear a Widex hearing aid in just one ear. I had mild hearing loss during my teenage years, but when I turned 15 it suddenly jumped from 60% to 80%. That was completely unexpected, and I was shocked when I saw the test results. It seems to be progressive hearing loss. Still, I act like a normal person even though I’m basically deaf, lol.

It’s scary going from hearing everything or the majority of thongs so well to suddenly losing a good chunk of your hearing.
