Advanced Bionics announced that CII users can upgrade their processors for the 120 channel systems. Yum! Can't wait to see how well it does for CII users. It's supposed to improve the resolution of sound significantly and improves your pitch discrimination as well. Music is said to be much more natural as well.

We'll see what CII users with 120channels system will have to say.

Looking forward to hearing the opinions of this from the CI users who try it out!!

You mean CII implant user or CII BTE user? I have CII implant with Auria BTE since CII implant's and HiRes90K implant's internal technology are basically same but the casing design are different. I do have PSP that I can upgrade software to handle the 120 channels and will trade in my Auria BTE for newer H****** BTE. I am hoping it accepts same addons' like T-mic and etc you know.. Also I am considering going bilateral so my 2nd one would be set up for 120 channels readily :D

Neecy,

I do know some members who are in 120 Trials, they loves it. If you haven't seen this;
http://www.michaelchorost.com/ cilck "My Bionic Quest for Boléro" to read his experience on 120 channels which he's looking forward to. He's one of them.

Maybe it's just me; His obsession with a singular musical masterpiece strikes me as somewhat wierd. Surely, he must have a broad musical range in which he enjoys music? Secondly, the article was kinda disappointing; I would have liked to read about his subjective impressions on the 120K upgrade as far as speech discrimination is concerned.

Music appreciation is a very nice addition to the CI regimen, but IMO, the main focus is speech discrimination in all sorts of listening environments. Let's hope the 120K upgrade will be a significant advance in CI technology, allowing users a mulitude of benefits in discriminating speech in nearly any kind of environment, from a sound booth to a Metallica concert.

He does enjoy music from broad range.. just that this particular musical masterpiece has wide range of frequency more of low frequency and so forth.. that low freq. he talked of in his book are those I can't hear now like 40 or 80hz. Anyway, I am not sure if you actually read his weblog of all his date entries beside the Wired article.

Remember every individual is different. So we will see what happens. He and I are of same age but his is far better than me. I think because of his background when growing up is entirely different than mine while he was implanted in 2001 and I in 2003 although he and I were born deaf. myself congenitally bilateral sensorineural severe to profound deaf from Rubella and his was severe hearing loss from Rubella. But his being "severe hearing loss" could equate him as hard of hearing than deaf like me.

Am I making sense because it is "morning" that prevent me from making myself clear LOL

Eyeth, I am kinda of doing the same thing but not this Ravel title but Survivor's "Eye of the Tigers" :) before I had HA I could catch "eye of the tiger" but I wasn't able to follow the lyric throughout... now with CI I was able to start at top and read thru to the end. So I want to put down the paper and follow without looking :)

I've been following his writings ever since I read his book Rebuilt! His writing is so good, it makes his feelings practically tangible! I really enjoy his work!

And I want to add - after I read his article on Bolero, a few months ago, I went and downloaded it and listened to it--- WOW...what an amazing piece of music it was! I just sat there and grinned, at being able to *really* hear it thanks to my CI!

Oops, Sorry for hijacking the thread - back to the original topic at hand :)
