Need new strobe smoke alarms again

Now that I'm moving to another place, I'll need to get strobe alarms. My current landlord found that the fire code says that they need to be hardwired, so I can't use the plug in ones I got. It also needs to have batteries in it.

The new landlord has an electrician who could install the hardwired ones and thought it would be a good idea for me to get my own so if I move again, I could take them with me. I counted two or three in the apartment, so I'm looking for the cheapest ones. I'm not short on money, so I can get three.

Is the black thing for the battery or something else?
 
Now I know I need three hardwired ceiling mounted strobe smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.
 
yea 3 wires for +, -, and ground
 
$79 for a smoke alarm, hearing people can get one for $10. *shrugs*
 
My goodness! $60 for a strobe in top of $10 for smoke detector?

How much does a stand-alone strobe cost... *sigh* Looks like I'll have to do a search...
 
just buy strobe at Radio Shack and then solder it to $10 smoke detector :cool2:
 
i wonder that $10 strobe light could connect into ac smoke detetor???
 
I found Kiddle smoke/CO detectors with separate strobes. They are the same ones as the ones already in the apartment and the landlady's electrician has the strobes, so I'll get two of them put in.
 
I'm not deaf myself but learning sign language, I was just wondering if they have done any tests as to how effective these are. I can't imagine a strobe waking me up in a fire...
