Hello everyone:

I work in an office setting, and may be moving cubicles. I am hard of hearing, and will be at the end of the hallway with no way of knowing if anyone is approaching my office. I need some sort of device or mobile phone app that will alert me to someone approaching without audio. Perhaps a flasher or the iPhone screen lighting up. Nothing fancy. Just something to keep me from getting startled everytime someone walks down to my office cuz I can't hear them coming. Thanks!

Stefanie

You make it sound like everyone knows when everyone else is coming.

I've had hearing co-workers who were startled because they didn't hear anyone approaching.

Just get a mirror to see behind you.
Yeah, I was about to say the same thing.

Get one of those domed mirrors so that you can see the whole space behind you? The bigger, the better. Put it on the wall in front of you... behind your computer monitor (or wherever you're facing the whole time.

It may be a slow process, but you could educate your co-workers on the best way to approach you so that you don't get startled?

I never know if someone's approaching me and I have moderate to severe loss. Is it possible you're worrying too much about this? There's better things to spend your money on.

Here's a convex mirror (18" wide)...

It's not a bad price. If you need something bigger (although I doubt it) or something smaller, just keep doing a search for "convex mirrors".

Perhaps, your employer can pay for it?

If you still insist, a motion detecting light socket sensor installed in any lamp will do inexpensively what you had in mind.
