Hi everyone I am new to the community. I stumbled across one of the forum posts as I was looking up Dry Throat.
I have had a dry feeling/need to clear my throat feeling for over 5 months.
I at first tried drinking alot of water and humidifying the place. I started eating alot of throat losanges, and cough drops. I saw my docter and they tried medicine for Post Nasal Drip, and Acid Reflux. I was sent to a specialist. I had allergy testing done. I was allergic to 3 molds, dust mites, Tumble weed. I have had an upper track GI/Berrium Swallow Test. I have had blood tests I do not have Hiv/Aids do not have any Hepotitus. I did find out I am Diabetic type 2 and am now taking Metformin for that and blood sugars are under controll. I am taking Claritin incase its an allergin. I am taking Nexium incase its acid reflux. I have steriod nasal sprays in case its post nasal drip. Nothing is curing it.
When this all started was about 5 months ago and here are the only things that have changed before that. I had a sinus surgery about 2 months before it started. But i was ok for a month or so after the surgery. I quit smoking shortly after the surgery. So like 2 weeks after, and one moth before this all started. We got a cat about this time aswell. Our cat has since sadley died. I have left our house for 2 weeks to see if it was something in the house. It did seem to get better, but then again I also tried taking valume then too to calm my nerves.
I also have these white dots under th skin of my lips. Not huge things just little tiny whit spots under the skin more prevelant when I stretch my lips.
My nose is kinda stuffy still aftrer the surgery but it is Alot better it used to be stuffed all the time. I am so mentally drained trying to figure this out. Please if anyone can suggest something/have any ideas/any questions Please comment.
Thanks CyberKnight

As I'm no doctor, far less a specialist--the 'only' thing that comes to mind considering your situation...you mentioned that you were somewhat relieved when away from the house for a couple weeks, here's a couple of things (that is if you hadn't done so already) comes to mind--one is, how often do you change your air filter in your furnance and also, the entire duct system running throughout the house may need to be thoroughly cleaned (perhaps more often in your case)....Those were just a couple that I could think of and might be worth checking into.

Otherwise, best of luck with solving whatever it is that is aggravating you.... ;)

(btw, welcome to AD--)

I will have to do that

We dont change the filter to often though we have changed it once when this started. The vents i have vaccummed aswel as I can. I need someone to come out and do it professionally. I even pulled up the carpet in the bathroom and there was a huge 3 foot by 3 foot section of black mold.
I am thinking of getting a tent and staying in it for the summer. See if that helps.
Thanks you for the comments suggestions anymore and all are welcome

Maybe u need to stop take all those pills and see if they are the one cause it?

have u check on other messages board thru health? I usually check in on Dr Stoll board and asked him some question about health issues.

Hope u find a way to cure it.

I agree with Jazzy about not taking any pills...

I am thinking of your house. Do you have a hot air system at your house?

Does this mean that you had nasal polyps removed?

Taking a steriod nose spray, I'll tell you now we know that steriod isn't good for body. There is a trick about the nose spray - you take a nose spray once for only one day. Let's wait next day if you are able to breathe thru your nose. Then don't use the spray until you have stuffy nose. It is never good idea to use the spray everyday. Actually, I learned my lesson about my nose spray for a long term.

The real problem that a doctor tells you about your diabete. First of all, does your family or relative have diabetes?

Wow the 3' x 3' black mold! That's bad. You might have some molds inside the walls in the bathroom - probably a small pipe leak slowly. This is deadly. You have to open all the windows - unfortunately, now it is spring time there are pollens out there. You should break a small drywall to see if there is any mold. If yes, then it's real bad news which mean that you need to replace all the insulations and plywoods in the bathroom, and maybe on the plywood floor, too. Don't forget to wear your mask before you crack the wall. I am not sure about your insurance policy.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Other things you may want to consider: Have you checked the drinking water? Also, do you live near a radioactive site? That can cause complications.

Mold thrives in humid and hot areas. Stay away from that type of area for a while. Or turn your AC down to make the house colder and see if it helps you get better.

Best I can suggest is to find another place to live asap.

Hi All

Thank you all for the replies. I am Diabetic and I do need to take the metformin. But my condition started well before the metformin and has continued after. The other medicine is a baby asprin a day because I am diabetic and somewhat overweight. The baby Asprin is also a necsesidy for now. The Nexium I am trying is just one of the atempts to get rid of this. I have only recently started this. And Ill tell you Ill try anything. I have fixed a place up for me to sleep that is not in the house. So i am going to give this a try for a month and see if it helps. That would narrow it down to the house. If this is not the cause Then I will try other things. I have just read about Candida overgrowth syndrome (COS). Before my sinus surgery I had been on different antibiotics for quite a long time. Also I had tried many nasal steriod treatments. Also I am Diabetic. And those are 3 Major risk factors for COS. So I am going to try some natural remedies for that. Like Oil of Oregino, and some other herbs.
Also I quit smoking justLike 1 month before this started. I am almost tempted to go try smoking again I am so desperate. Although it seems my daughters are having some throat problems now too and there throats are somewhat sore and dry. I am hoping this is different from me but I am afraid it is the same thing just less evedent. They both complain of dry throat and I took them both to the doctor today and they want them to take an alergy nasal spray, and have allergy testing.
Well I forget now all the replies and what they said I will tell you though I have read them all and take them very seriously and will keep in mind all of the sugestions, And try every one of them as I can untill this is figured out. I appreciate any more suggestions or comments from anyone.
Has anyone heard of that COS?
Thanks all and thank in advance for new posts.

From what you've said about your dilemna, it might be a good idea to investigate the drinking water supply. If there is a small pipe leak somewhere as webexplorer brought up, there is a good chance mold may have breached into and contaminated the drinking water supply. This does not seem unlikely in a house that has a large 3' by 3' mold patch.
Also, try a de-humidifer to control the mold colonies' growth. Moisture and heat are mandatory to sustain mold growth. Eliminate as much moisture as possible. Turn on the AC to make the house cooler.
Another good recommendation would be to try to leave the house again for a few weeks if possible and avoid taking medicine this time and see if you still get an improvement.
Just be sure to have a professional come and check the drinking water supply. That may be why your daughters' throats are feeling sore and dry, since air is not the only transmittable medium. That is, assuming the water is part of the problem.
But for now, you should try to get your family out of the house and to another location where mold isn't going to cause health problems. Good luck with everything.

Some could be right about taking medications can cause dry mouth. I take Aciphex for refluxes and it causes my mouth to dry and makes me thirsty all the time. Some medications do cause dry mouth/throat. Have you tried going back to the dr and get a different kind of medication and see if it'll make it better?

As far as having a mold in the bathroom is not good either. It can cause abcestos (sp) It can make your health go down really quickly. Its not healthy for anyone to be living with molds in the house. Just like one of the members suggested.. check the floor and drywall to see if there's any more molds.. if you see a leak.. get it fixed and replace the floor and drywall. For you to live in a tent or whereever you're staying isn't gonna really help. You'll still have to replace the floor anyways.

All I can think of is for you to go back to the dr and tell the dr you're having dry mouth/throat. I think staying in a tent isn't gonna help due to pollen but you can try.

Can you talk to your sister or brother about your bathroom problem? They could look inside the wall because you are not able to do it due your health problems. It sounds that you are in a big trouble now because it "infected" your children, too.

(I don't trust any doctor because some doctors don't give a damn about their patients except profit and medical stocks (investments) especially their medical salespeople who sold them to the doctors - that's how they make money in stocks. Why? There are too many people in the hospitals.)

Your sister/brother could call your insurance company about the situation so it might pay you for the renovation. I am concerned about your insurance company because it might cancel your policy - I am not sure. I was an insurance house inspector. (A few inspectors are dope.) Some states have a different policy.

I agreed with many AD users here about their comments.

Call the fire department and have them search your house to figure out what the heck is wrong with your house... Maybe it's your house that causes it :dunno:

Had the fire department over at my house a year ago since something was giving my whole family a horriable headach and it was the house since it was very old like in the 50's, they think it might be molds up in the attic and the house needs to be torn down and rebuild. So we moved last dec. :dunno:
