National Institute for the Deaf performs 'Guys and Dolls' at RIT campus | Democrat and Chronicle | democratandchronicle.com

Rochester Institute of Technology's National Institute for the Deaf takes another innovative approach to theater with Guys and Dolls, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Robert F. Panara Theatre in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Building on the Henrietta campus.

In this production, the actors on stage will be signing. Simultaneously, hearing actors will voice and sing the parts from the wings. The idea is for non-hearing and hearing people to enjoy the production at the same level. NTID is one of the few places to employ this method in productions.

The cast and crew is large — 53 actors and about 50 crew members. To communicate between a mix of hearing and signing participants, they have used Skype and other technology.

A live orchestra also will accompany the production, rare for productions at the Panara Theatre.

Tickets are $7 ($5 seniors and students). Call (585) 475-6254 or NTID Performing Arts.
