I am writing a article on the need for a national alert system for the deaf and hard of hearing people. I really need to know if anyone would be willing to tell me their story of a dissaster that happend to them and what type of alert system they had and if it worked why or why not? I greatly aprreciate any help that anyone is willing to give me.

Hi Wendy,

I was involved in many disasters while living in Southern California (fires, earthquakes, Rodney riot, etc) but in the past 10 years I have been living in Oregon and have yet encountered any major disaster that would require a national alert.

I imagine that things have improved greatly in 10 years so I can't answer that . However, I do wonder what will happen if Mt Hood does erupt or if we have a major earthquake as we are expecting these types of disasters.
