They cant land the shuttle in rain? Theyre a bunch of sissies like baseball players are who cant play in the rain.Airline pilots can sure land 747 airliners in rain, sleet and snow. Comon send the shuttle down in the rain and take a chance. All NASA wants to do is waste our tax dollars to land in california when it gets a piggyback ride on a 747 airliner.I like to see bush fire 2 people. The head of NASA and strip the shuttle commander pilots licence. If the FAA can strip pilots licence cause he was flying intoxicated then why not the president strip the shuttle commanders pilots licence for being a such a whimp? And when the shuttle commander is forced to leave NASA play this song in front of him.

All but one man died,
There at Bitter Creek,
And they say he ran away ...

Branded!
Marked with a coward's shame.
What do you do when you're branded,
Will you fight for your name?

Branded!
Scorned as the one who ran.
What do you do when you're branded,
And you know you're a man?

And wherever you go
for the rest of your life
You must prove ...
You're a man!

Well, it landed safely!! The runaway is clear and dry for them to land. They just want to be sure if everything go okay for the shuttle to land instead of slippery and crash. They are not whimps...

They are whimps you realize how much we gotta pay to have the shuttle piggyback ride on a 747 all the way to florida? When Alan greenspan raises our intrest rates thats to pay that shuttle on a piggyback ride to florida and im gonna say SEE I TOLD YOU SO!!! .Why not take the best airline pilot and promote him to be a space shuttle pilot and he can land that thing on a wet run way.

ravensteve, ravesteve. we dont need to tell you the reasons why they cant land.
use your brain to google why they cant land during raining, RS. i strongly support NASA's best decision. according to my research while ago, space shuttles landing speeds are 205 to 235 mph. that is more fast than those commerical airlines' landing speeds. Also space shuttle usually loose the attitude 20 times faster than the commerical airlines before they land. that wud be great difficult to slow down itself.

Not only that, the shuttle has no power to be able to abort. The shuttle is a glider and the shuttle was not designed to fly in rain and gliders cannot fly in turblents which I bet that was the major concern with NASA.

I agree what you just said..

steve steve.... :slap:

Don't care about the lives of those astrounts and shuttle. It costs more to built another ones if NASA lost it. It is cheaper to piggy ride back to Fla than build another new ones just alike Challenger blew up in "86" and had to build another one which costed us hundreds million dollars. Get real. Be thankful they came home alive and safe.

Read what the other posters said. It's been explained why NASA made the decisions they did.

I agree with the others.

Isn't the astronauts' lives worth a million dollars (the cost to fly the shuttle on top of the modified 747 back to Florida) for their safety to land at Edwards Air Force Base in California than risk them crashing and killing the astronauts to save money to land in Florida?
