I was telling him that I am concerned about Marty as he is straining to take a poop will not eat! The vet want me to put Miralax in Marty's food, to help him poop and I was asking how to give him the Miralax because Marty will not take food! I was trying to the vet something else and he said something about as long as my dog is happy everything is OK! I think that is what the vet said as he hanged up on me after that!! I did not realize he was no longer on the phone as cells phones do not made a loud sound when you close them! I just hope there nothing really wrong with Marty! He got neutered really late he was 2 years old.

Was he just recently neutered, just before you got him? Sometimes dogs don't have a bowel movement for a day or two after surgery as the anesthesia works through the system. But surely he would not have been shipped to you immediately after a surgery like that, would he?

Try giving him cooked chicken and rice, and see if he does a little better on that. Also some people believe in giving canned pumpkin. NOT pumpkin pie mix, that has too many spices, just plain canned pumpkin, about a teaspoonful mixed in with his food.

All that said, if he has been constipated for more than a day, I would definitely take him in to the vet.

Might be what ur feeding Marty....??....dogs do get constipated at times, same as humans...My own Vet told me to give her some Pepto-Bismol and I did. She got better after 2 days and was able to pass....But if you really feel Marty is in a lot of discomfort, then I'd take him in to the emergency Vet's office.

I am feeding Marty the same food the shelter feed him Blue Buffalo dried dog food. He was neutered about a week ago at the shelter in Massachusetts.
I took Marty to the vet today as I was very concerned about him not pooping . The vet assistant took Marty in the back off the office and he was brought back in by the vet a few minutes later and he said everything was normal, that Marty took a poop when he taken outside. I asked the vet how was his poop and he said " I think they said was OK" I am now thinking that I was lied to as Marty would not had taken a poop that fast! Marty has been to the vet two times since I got him on April 6 . I brought him to the vet on April 7 as he has kennel cough . Finlay had this and got better , I was willing to treat Marty for kennel cough , I did not think he would have trouble pooping too! The shelter did not know Marty had kennel cough until I saw him. I do not think the volunteers know a lot about dog health issues or what to look out for or someone would pick up on Marty coughing! I am upset as my vet hanged up on me when I was trying to get help for my dog. I may have to find another vet, the vet I use now is giving me a 50% discount.
I hope Marty will be OK!

Is he drinking plenty of water? Sometimes dogs will eat grass. It is the first tell tale sign of a tummyache.

It doesn't make sense that the vet would lie to you about something like that.

How often are you walking him? Do you take him to the same spot every time? Sometimes dogs who are well house-trained don't know where they are supposed to go once they are put into new surroundings, but usually they figure it out quickly if there is consistency in how often they are walked, and where they are taken to.

Just a possibility: sometimes when puppies are trained to go in a particular environment they won't poop elsewhere. Maybe your pup was trained on concrete ... you've been trying to walk him on something he shouldn't go on and the vet asst. walked him on the magic ground cover he's accustomed to.
