:DI am so happy...just got news from the shelter where I volunteer in the behavior department - one of the dear Pit Bulls left for rescue yesterday! This was one of the dogs that came along that I was personally interested in. Like so many of Bullies, he'd been there for several months and he had gotten to where he would refuse to go back into the kennel, even after we tried different routes, tried food lures <food like ham, cheese etc>, putting a crate with blanket inside in the kennel for him to snuggle in and so on. People had started having to carry him. He would just lay down and look sad:aw:
I enjoyed working with him.

AND another bigger dog DDB - Dog de Bordeux <looks like this:http://www.google.com/search?q=dog+de+bordeaux&hl=en&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=0Sv2TeLtBIrcgQecqe22Cw&ved=0CBkQsAQ&biw=1173&bih=682> got adopted!
I'd only worked with him once - huge male pup, about 9 months, very sweet and powerful, not a dog to be in the way of! Neat dog to work with too.
:D

oh - sorry about that link there - here, if anyone is interested, here is one that might be easier: Available Dogues
if u scroll down a little on the page there's pictures

yea we usually place dogs in foster home if dogs didn't cope well at kennels and I can see why. Being placed in kennel is equivalent to placing orphaned child in prison, waiting for any interested parents to adopt one :(

:wave:yes, foster homes are great! Unfortunately, they are also very few and far between - especially for Bullies and many of the bigger/"Mastiff-type" dogs we get at the shelter. The behavior department manager took home another Pittie to foster last weekend - behaving similarly to the one I started this thread with <the one now in foster care>. She currently has 5 dogs including another foster dog who is elderly and has been with her for several months.
I'm soooo tempted often but with an elderly, frail dog, two powerful young females and us trying to move, that possibility is not the most favorable, no matter how much I would personally love the potential dog.

@dogmon, hello how was your shelter work? news fun dogs

I experinece it my parents adopt dog breeding free to people
my client volunteer, I think so my client love on dogs shelter, cutes! awesome!

dogmom, dogue de bordeaux is the same breed as the dog in the "Turner and Hooch" movie starring Tom Hanks. I loved that movie! My husband who is the dog person in our family really loved that dog and wanted one just like it, but I didn't know the breed at the time.

Currently, we have one old labrador, one beagle and 2 young corgis. (and 3 cats). I'd better not tell my husband now which breed it is or we will end up with yet another pet! Not sure if I want any more just now.

I am enjoying my shelter work very much, even though it is hard to leave them in the kennels after working with them and especially challenging when a dog does not make it. Have you ever volunteered at an animal shelter?

:wave:BecLak, I also have an elderly Lab - he is 13. Black Lab. Your Lab - how old?
yup, I recall that Turner and Hooch movie! I liked the movie too. Yeah, you're right - I sometimes refer to DDB's as - "Turner and Hooch" dogs with the public.
In Rottie rescue one of the people I worked with had two DDB. She was also fostering a Rottie girl who was adopted - I went with her and we did the home assessment and initial placement of that Rottie into the new home, which involved several dog-dog intro's as the adopters also had two other dogs. But anyway, this volunteer had a male and female DDB. Never got a chance to meet them , though.
