on fri we left atlanta at one pm and on the following night we arrived at a campground in seneca rocks at 1am. we set up the tents then we jumped in sleeping bags. next morning we woke up and saw seneca rocks and i thought it was too beautiful. we went to a base of south peak. My long time climbing partner, tony, warned me that my friend, ken, who usually climbed with me sometimes, never climbed on a multipitches so so i had to choose easy routes like 5.2 to 5.6. I chose a route named old ladies route - 5.2(4 pitches and 5th class crawling) somehow we had raining at the base and we were forced to wait til at noon. Some climbers told us there were wet n
slippy so we went down yet we found a dry spot where we could climb. It was ecstary junior 5.4(2 pitches). tony told me he wanted to lead on that
route so I let him taking care of that climbing for us. He went on 1/3 way of the route and he struggled on that spot for about 30 minutes somehow he got freaked out and stopped at a treverse that had no cracks or no handle above the treverse. He told me he got scared. Ugh ! But I was glad he was calm at there and when he set up a belay station (to me he did set up too much protections on rock), he belayed me to meet him then I led all way to up to a first pitch at a big ledge. Then I set up the belay station then I belayed tony to there then I belayed ken from the base. All of us were safed and secured at the belay station. tony insisted me he wanted to lead again bec he wanted to overcome his fear so he went on a tall wide crack. Somehow he paused at 15 ft on the crack and he said he couldn't do anymore. I whispered myself not again ! it delayed our times on that day. I told him that was ok and he could come down and I would clean them up then we can call a day" which we agreed. I downed tony to the ledge. Then we swapped each other and I climbed up to where tony stopped at and cleaned up the protections as I climbed down carefully. Then we rappeled down approx 170 ft. then we hiked back to a parking lot and we headed to a store to pay for camping site then we went back to campsite and we chatted while we watched ppl climbing on that seneca rock with my binoculars at our camping site. It was very beautiful to view from our campsite. We caught lights blinked on the walls and we realized the climbers still climbed at a night. I envyed them because climbing at night was FUN and more challenging, but the park closed at 10pm and I knew they had to hurry themselves to finish before 10pm. On a following night I told tony and ken that I wanted to lead on the multipitches with them. Ken and tony agreed. Tony admitted he didn't understand why he just got freaked out on little big walls. Next day(sunday 9am) we went to the same base where we supposed to climb on Saturday so I led climbing on old ladies route on the all way up to summit. Even we did not see eachother at between the pitches. We tugged the rope to communicate each other. As we arrived at the summit, it was like 5 feet wide wall between west and east side and I looked at both side. Wow. It was awesome to look down! tony and I signed on a signature book that was in a weatherproof box at the summit. ken refused to sign because he held himself on the summit. i thought it was funny to see his reaction. As we went down back to area where we supposed to go down, we talked about where to go down. It was a little waste of our time because we couldn't find where to rappel down to the base that was west side and we were on east side. Old ladies route were on both side. We left a guide book at the base. I forget to bring it with me. the guidebook would tell us where to rappel down from the summit. tony caught a climber at the summit and asked him where to rappel while I knotted 2 ropes and I evenually rappeled down. Tony yelled and waved at me like 'stop stop stop'. I was down like 5 ft(1.5 m). He said he knew where to rappel on west side. So I had to pull myself back the ledge and cleaned the ropes. We went to the area on west side for rappelling. Tony found two bolts at the ledge on west side so he set up one rope for first rappelling. Then we all rappelled down to another ledge (80ft (45m)) for second rappelling. Then we all rappelled down to the base (200 ft(60m)). we got on ground. Woo hoo ! We hit high 5 hands. Then we headed back to our campsite like 8pm. I told tony and ken I was very happy to climb with them because they used common senses how to communicate without hearing each other on the multipitches. i had a blast ! So I wished I can climb more but the time didn't permit me. two days climbing at seneca rocks is not enough for me. maybe 3 or 4 days would be better because seneca rock is just a little huge rock.. it is just awesome. I will put some pixes here soon.

yep it was awesome... i consider to go back to there this fall. :)

Wow that's a nice jagged rocky mountain, I researched and found out it's called Spruce Knob, u went at the highest point of West Virginia, elevation of 4,861 ft. It says that from the base to the top is 900 feet gain of climbing, long way to go, lol.

Cool. glad you liked it in WV. I'm from Clarksburg, WV and see those rocks all the times when travelling to the south. I'm more of a water guy - prefer rafting/kayaking/scuba over rocks. Thanks for putting $$ in WV tourism :)
