In the latest development on a story WLBT first brought you, a long-time literature teacher at the Mississippi School for the Deaf has been fired after an investigation into accusations of inappropriate contact with a student.
In a news release e-mailed to WLBT, state superintendent of education Dr. Hank Bounds said,"The Mississippi Department of Education received evidence of improper communication between a student and a teacher at the Mississippi School for the Deaf. The employment of the teacher has been terminated. We are continuing to investigate this matter."
Dr. Bounds would not confirm the identity of the teacher or the student.
However, WLBT news has been told the woman is 53-years-old and has been teaching at MSD for 18 years. The student is 19-years-old.
The two had allegedly exchanged intimate e-mails.
A school computer was confiscated by state investigators on Tuesday.
