Former Employee Says Diagnostic Center Puts Patients In Danger

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A Jacksonville woman who said she was fired after speaking up about practices she believes put patients in danger is suing the company that employed her for more than a year.
"I lost my job in November, and I'm still looking for a new one," said Laura Price.
Price believes she lost her job at the Horizon Diagnostic Center in Orange Park for all the wrong reasons. She worked for the Horizon Diagnostic Center in Orange Park.
She claims that the entire time she worked at the center, "The MRI equipment was faulty, and patient and public safety was at jeopardy."
Price said many of the coils inside the MRI machines were broken and that she constantly submitted repair orders and asked her bosses to do something.
"Repeatedly, doctor's offices would call and ask us to redo images, tell us they were unreadable," Price said.
She said she and her co-workers complained over and over because they were worried someone's life would be put on the line.
"Every time that I would ask about them, I would be told that the company didn't have the money to repair it right now or that they'd get to them," Price said.
Price said she finally became fed up and complained. She said she was fired a week later and didn't understand why because she said she was a top performer.
"They said I hadn't performed up to their standards. But I can tell you that it was essentially because I refused to stop complaining about the broken coils.
Price has filed a lawsuit claiming she was retaliated against, that the company broke its code of ethics by failing to provide good care and claiming she was forced to lie to protect the company.
"if there's any patients who had MRIs with those bad coils, I think they should have those MRIs repeated or a refund issued," Price said.
According to her lawsuit, Price is asking for $1.5 million in damages claiming she suffered severe physical and emotional distress.
Horizon Diagnostic Center's attorney, Ronald Hock, responded to the lawsuit, stating, "We have many imaging centers. All of them have good equipment. They're all serviced on a regular basis by independent service professionals. Laura Price is a disgruntled former employee, and we will be vigorously defending this lawsuit."
