Hello everybody I tried posting before on another thread but it failed so I'll try again here lol basically my fiance and I are both planning on moving to Florida within the next year but we have no idea where to start ... from what we heard the Tampa/clearwater area, and the jax/st. Aug area both have very big deaf communities ... what we are trying to figure out is which area would be best for our age I am 24 she is 22 and we would like to go somewhere that has a decent ammt of people around our ages ... any suggestions ? Thanks to everybody who replies

Don't know where to start? What do you mean by that?

Both places (Jacksonville-Duval/St. Augustine and Tampa/Clearwater) are nice places, but the Tampa Bay area is a bit expensive than the NE Florida area.

What I would suggest for you all to do before you consider on moving, visit and stay in both areas for least a week to get the feeling of both places. Florida isn't what it used to be.

I agree with Brian. Visit both areas and find which you like.

Miami and Orlando also have a large deaf community.

I have been to the Tampa area and know many people there, they do seem to have a large deaf community there. I thought Tampa was beautiful, as well.

I wouldn't move to the Florida Keys. Their Medicaid program sucks. And their social services are pretty much non-existant. (Only in the Keys).

I did live in Tampa Bay as a child with my mother and my little sister. We had an awesome apartment right there on the beach! I miss that!

I'm from the Tampa area (Palmetto, FL), though both cities will give you pretty much a similar experience with other deaf people. It really depends on your preferences - Tampa is more an upscale setting, Jax is more of a freestyle beach setting. Your pick.

Recommending to vacation in Florida and see yourself. :)

Good luck!
