movie theatre *rant*

....was told around 5,000 to 7,000

it's almost a City....

That population figure is probably why.....hardly any deafies there, right? How far away is the nearest "big town/city"?

The nearest big Cities <--note I said cities) Are all over 2 and a half hours away.

Des Moines is the only one I know of that has a theatre with Captioning but it could be set up just like the theatre Alicia went to.....

Our metro area here is 500,000 and only one RW theatre in all those complexes.

Iowa deafies in that 1/2 mil city need to rally around this issue and pressure at least three of these many movie theatres within these complexes to have OC films and strategize showings of say, three different films on at least three different days. Something like that.....OC is good, maybe cheaper for them to utilize over a RW set-up.....but its not gonna happen until someone takes a stand....

I know you are right. I don't know why we got only RW. They first advertised that it would be OC and I wonder if they just did not know the difference.

Loghead- It was at Coliseum in the westend. South Keys eh? I guess you are a south-eastender lol. Don't worry I grew up in that area, South Keys is like my home lol

Where I grew up we had a little tiny independent theater that used a DVD player and an LCD projector...they would always turn on captions or subtitles when I asked if the films had them!Yay small towns!

Did they have the movies before it was released on DVD?

They mostly show independent films and docs that don't go to theaters anyway. As a result that is the stuff that I am into so it worked for me!

Yeah, Ive been to a couple of these. Pretty cool stuff.

Gives me ideas on what to do. I'll ask around and see.

What theatre was it Alicia? I always go to South Keys... it's the closest. I actually never knew you could ask for such a device... I will consider it next time I go to the theatre. Anyway, sorry to hear about that! They are so ill-equipped.

Coliseum Ottawa on Carling Avenue - I have been there so many times.

There is two movie theatres with RWC capability in Ottawa area -

Silver City Gloucester - Theatre no. 5

AMC 24 in Kanata - two theatres - I dunno which numbers

I figured Silver City would have it (because they're huge). I used to go there all the time until we found out that South Keys was cheaper. I think I've been to the one in Kanata once... not sure.

okkkk so I went to the movies tonight with Grace and we went to go see When In Rome...which was a good movie btw....So before the movie I was talking to JennyB and she said I should check if they have those things you can use to see captions...So she and I both checked online on the cineplex website and it listed that at the location I was going to they did indeed have this closed captioning device for me to use. So off we went to go pay for our tickets and ask for said device...and lo and behold they do have it YAY....but wait...THEY ONLY HAVE IT AVAILABLE IN ONE THEATRE! So If I wanted to sit in Theatre 11 and watch the movie "Edge of Darkness" Well then I'd be all set to go...but that was NOT the movie I wanted to see and unfortunately I had to sit through the movie...now I understood and asked Grace for some parts I didn't hear what was said...but come one! How do you advertise something and only partly offer the service...I was pretty pissed off....so now I know if I want to use that in the future...i better go see a movie (whether i like it or not) in theatre 11....FML

I have been very familiar with the said theatre since I went there so many times.

Of course it sucks that Coliseum Ottawa has only one theatre with RWC capability. I know for a fact that Scott Simser and Gary Malkowski filed a complaint against the movie theatres across Ontario thru the Ontario Human Rights Commssion several years ago. I do not know whether the Ontario Human Rights Commission tribunal has made a ruling on their complaint. I can check in with them since I sometimes correspond with either of the guys by e-mail.

The Cineplex website tends to update their movie listings for Fridays every Wednesday and make sure to see which movie will be equipped with R/WC.

Here's a link with Ottawa-based Cineplex theatres with the movies equipped with R/WC:

Movie Technology

When in Rome at Silver City Gloucester has R/WC!!!!! You better grab your chance to watch it before Thursday. :)

Silver City Gloucester tends to run movie with R/WC from Friday to Wednesday night while Coliseum Ottawa does it from Friday to Thursday night.

AMC 24 in Kanata has two movie theatres with R/WC. I do not know much about them cuz I never went there before. Kanata is too far from my home!!! :)

At last, here's my advice for you when you get your transparent acrylic panel, ask the manager or customer service representative to let you come in the theatre early. Sit in middle at fifth or sixth row from the wall for best optimal viewing. I have done it all the times with no problem.

I hate South Keys movie theatre! :)

lol Royale, we already saw When In Rome, we watched it that night. But thanks for the tips, I'll keep an eye out for movies that run in theatres with that service.
