Police: Man Found With Crack Pipe, Prescription Bottles; Mother Hospitalized
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man accused of leaving his 73-year-old mother without food or heat earlier this week when overnight temperatures dropped into the low 20s was arrested Thursday on charges including abuse of the elderly.
According to the arrest report, officers investigated after 73-year-old Leona McIntyre was hospitalized complaining of abdominal pain. They found her son, Robert McIntyre, lying on a couch near a wood-burning stove. The report said that a crack pipe and several empty prescription bottles were found next to him in his home in the 5800 block of Firestone Road.
McIntyre, 42, was charged with abuse of an elderly adult, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation and failure of a defendant to appear on bail.
Officers said that the only food in the refrigerator were chicken bones and other rotten food. There were Raman noodles and open dog food on the kitchen table, according to the report.

When asked about the lack of heat, officers said McIntyre told them the thermostat was broken.
The arrest report says the victim told them she had given McIntyre money to fix the thermostat and buy food, but he does not. She also said he steals her prescription drugs and is verbally abusive to her and her pets.
She told officers that during the recent hard freeze, it got down to 42 degrees in her bedroom.
The victim said the thermostat had not worked since the summer. When police asked why she didn’t report to authorities that it was broken, "the suspect told her if she called the police he would burn down the house with her and her pets inside.”
McIntyre was being held in the Duval County Jail on $77,517 bond.
