MORNING EYES
[by Jerome F. Haug]
This morning as I was starting to stir
Through the door stealthily crept a ball of fur
The ball of fur jumped up onto my bed
She placed herself right close to my head
That ball of fur, my loving cat
Just stared at me and I stared right back
She stared at me with her great hazel eyes
Then started purring and to my surprise
She licked my face and started to rub
As if to ask, “would you please get me some grub”?
She wanted attention; she wanted her food
Her very actions put me in a good mood
I cannot express how wonderful I felt
Even knowing she just wanted her meal dealt
Then I looked in the mirror and thought with surprise
Only my cat could love these morning eyes
