hi all

besides the sidekick II, are there any other mobiles with built in TTY? They cram more and more features into phones every day but I can't beleive how hard it is to find one with built in TTY.

someone told me the upcoming treo 650 will TTY support. Does this mean it's compatible with external tty devices like the current 600 or will it be a proper TTY device? that would be awesome!

thanks
andy

I'm actually disappointed with the fact that they are coming out with more and more features on newer mobile devices. I wish they would leave the old features alone in older pagers and keep those since they are cheaper. I don't care much for AIM. I don't care much for the internet. I don't care much for games. All I want is a simple e-mail service like Agotel and Wyndtell used to have. Nowadays, they don't do those any more... just more and more advanced annoying mobile devices. :(

What about blackberry? they only do email most of the time unless you add some third-party stuff.

I feel the same way. I am not advocating "the good old days", whatever THAT might mean...It just seems that technology is going so fast that we can hardly sit still and see what we HAVE, for petesake. First of all, I am concerned about transporation safety...in the "good old days" I would go nuts when people would fiddle with the car radio, taking their eyes off the road to find a station to their liking...And those were hearing people, I have always felt safe with fellow deaf drivers...
But no more.
What happened??
I fear we are becoming kinda overspecialized, like swamp birds.
You know the story, don't you? This swamp has birds that need bigger and longer beaks in order to reach the food, and the higher the water becomes, over generations, the bigger and heavier their beaks become. Then one day a swamp fire happens, and the damn birds get wiped out because their beaks are so heavy they cannot fly.
That is a result of overspecialization.
Deaf drivers have always had a good record because of the lack of distractions, and now we are willingly adding them?? What for??
Phooey, call me old fashioned, but I still believe in keeping the eye on the road.

well i has sidekick myself.. there has tty in it just pay extra.. it cost 9.95 and it is worth it.. sidekick 2 has same thing i bet.. u can check it out on internet or call the company and find out abt it..

Sounds like you're asking for the capability to just put the cell phone into TTY mode, then dial someone's number and then type using the phone keypad.

No, as far as I know, there's no pager that does this. The Sidekicks are actually connected to GoAmerica's WyndPower service that you pay for and they make the TTY connection for you.

My question is, if a cell phone company DIFFERENT than your current one had such a free service, TTY on the cell phone, would you buy that service? I'm talking about Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile, AT&T Wireless, etc.

Screw that. I think that's wishful thinking. Deaf drivers safe? They have to take their eyes off the road to see you talk to them!

The only way things will be safer for everyone is when we all drive tanks run by computers that never crash and are connected to some super traffic control system. And we'll never get there, so I'd say either give up the driving or put up with it.
