Methadone: to use or not to use

My understanding with any treatment with opiate's ( not from personal experience) Is that as long as you are in treatment the clinic is constantly checking you out. IE: drug screening, to determine if the patient is using the drugs in a controlled manner. If he is using it to keep his withdrawl symptoms at bay then he will have the proper amount of methadone in his system. They also check to see if there is any other controlled substances in his system. If he is misusing the prescriptions they can tell and will abort his treatment at anytime.

I guess anyone of you have no experience with someone who is in the methodane treatment before. I d like to know how those people who are in the treatment program and how they are doing?

My friend and I have been googling to collect the information to understand more and better about it.

Do you think it's ok if she comes with him to the hospital so she can witness everything what he is doing there?

The people I knew that were in the methodone program, which are several....most went back to the drug of their choice.
Some people can handle going "cold turkey", which is just quitting drugs without any "crutch", such as methodone.....They dealt with the nausea, shakes, cold sweats, pain, etc. Methodone is actually another addictive drug, just not as strong, to help with the withdrawals from the drug of their choice they were addicted to...prior.

For those who go through the methodone program with success, kudos to them! They need all the support they can get....

If ur friend really loves this guy, is willing to stand beside him, to beat this "monkey on his back" which is drugs....more power to her! Seems this guy is really trying hard to get his life back. Wishing him the "very best"! And if he fails....then try & try & try again! There is light at the end of the tunnel...he will need all the support he can get.

Those drug addicts get a prescription from doctors for methadone. SO, Is methadone treatment a long-term solution for those drug addicts?

Is it safe?
=?

Yes, it is safe when used as prescribed. But no it isn't a solution to the addiction. It is simply a way to manage it. The most common reason that opiate addicts don't stop using is because of physical withdrawal symptoms. Methadone, and now Seboxan, prevent those symptoms.

It is like any treatment program. If the person is truly wanting to change the addiction and the behaviors associated with it, then they are successful in a maintenance program.

Very true. Medical management is necessary for opiate addiction because of the physical nature of the dependence. Withdrawal needs to be monitored for complications, as well. People have died attempting to go "cold turkey".

yike. i'm thinking that she shouldn't be so quick to judge him because it really took a lot for him to tell her about his treatment. just saying.

It shows, as well, that he is changing his previous addictive behaviors that involve dishonesty, and that is a sign of progress in recovery. Sounds like this guy may be on the side of a win.
