Mission: Bridges unites the Deaf, the Hard of Hearing, and the Hearing communities through education, services, and support, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential.

What We Do: Bridges provides services, education, and support to Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals. Our Clarksville office offers on-site interpreting and information and referral. Other services, including youth programming and wellness activities, are provided at our main office. Informational presentations may be provided throughout the community.

Organizational Details: Bridges is a 501(c)3 organization which is governed by a volunteer board of directors and has 12 staff members. The agency is funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services, area United Way agencies, the Memorial Foundation, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Baptist Healing Trust, the HCA Foundation, and corporate and private contributions.

History: Bridges was founded in 1927 by a middle Tennessee woman who was hard of hearing as a class for speech reading. Many changes and more than 80 years later, Bridges carries on her legacy by helping thousands of people of all ages each year.

Who We Serve: Bridges serves 16 counties in middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. We serve people who experience, or are interested in, hearing loss and similar issues.

Key Programs, Services and Facilities:

• Youth Program includes after school programming, camp, and weekend activities

• Living Well Program provides wellness information in an accessible format to adults

• Education and Outreach provides community classes and informational presentations

• Interpreting and transcribing is provided in the community for a variety of different settings

• Scholarship program for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, or are pursuing a degree to assist this community
