medication with mix dangerous beer?

as someone who also has bipolar disorder, i understand what travis is going through. please, let's try to show him a little compassion, okay? thanks.

thinking of you travis! <hugs>

travis, you should drink least not too much and dont drunk when you drive or not im warned it.AND PLUS IF you are had sezuire im serious!

again, one should never drink when they are on meds. i can't stress that enough.

We cant see the similarity of this - like Heath Ledger, the first anniversay of his death isn't far away unfortunately.

travis' situation is *completely* different from ledger's. travis has a mental illness that causes severe fluctuations in mood and may be responsible for his desire to drink while on meds. some people with bipolar abuse alcohol and/or drugs while in a manic or depressed state. i know this was true for me after my bipolar diagnosis until my psychiatrist told me about the dangers of drinking while taking meds.

by the way travis, thank you for your most recent message. please continue to keep me updated as to how you are doing. <hugs>

and doctor's advice as well.

That's right. He's an adult, but unable to make his own decisions while symptomatic of his illness. There are/were several people on the forum who encouraged him to come here for support. If that's what the forum wants, then it's up to US to encourage him to do that right thing. Several people were encouraging him to drink in moderation when he shouldn't drink at all.

As to us being his support system, I disagree with that too, but others don't. I don't think a forum is the proper place to address his needs, but others see it differently. All I am suggesting is if the forum wants to look after Travis, then be responsible and advise him properly.

.

i do drink beer or wine once but not everyday on wine or beer dues your health problems like sezuires or whatevers types of health reasons.

im major sezuires when i was 12 years old but im using medicine everyday all the times but i listen to doctors's advise i read bottle says dont using alcohol but i would can allowed it just once!

my parents give me drink beer once not everyday! but i listen my parents but i can drink pop soda or water lots they i can drink alcohol once that it.

travis, you should drink least not too much and dont drunk when you drive or not im warned it.AND PLUS IF you are had sezuire im serious!

Not everyone has same health problem as you, I don't think so if Travis has seizure problem.

He shouldn't drink alcohol while take meds, don't matters if how is much of amounts.

Travis is struggling with a lot of issues besides bipolar, seizures and medication.

Please get to know Travis not on the forum. Get to know him as Travis, not as smithtr.

I can't give out any more info because I believe in confidentiality and trust.

i've been communicating with travis for quite awhile now and am familiar with the many issues he's dealing with.

however, my support still doesn't take the place of medical advice. (neither does any information exchanged here on ad.)

Travis...everybody is right...i hope you are listening to them!!
Please do not drink alcohol with meds at all!!
It is very, very dangerous to your health!

I hope you are ok!
We do care about you, sweetie! you know that.

travis,

please do not take this advice. one should *never* drink when they are on meds -- period.

I wasn't advicing that part, I was advicing that it would be better to enjoy the medication ratherly than taking it with the alcohol. At that part that you quoted, I was actually warning that it could cause the stomach bleed.

It can do more than that cause a stomach bleed. It can actually cause the respiratory drive to cease do to the depressive effects of the alcohol and his medications; some of which may also be depressants. The person could die. I don't really know what effects anti depressants have when you mix them with alcohol, but I've been told that that can prove fatal as well. It's just not a good idea to advise someone that it's OK to drink while on psychotropic medication. This is especially true if the person is struggling to get their mental illness stable or to remain stable.

*nods* Agree, there's a lot of effects by the alcohol and drinking alcohol while taking the medication was never good recommendation, the best to not drink at all.

Travis,

It is not a good idea for you to drink beer with the medications you are taking. It will make your medicine have a greater effect on you, and could put you in the hospital. Please take care of yourself. Don't drink while taking your meds. It won't solve any problems, and will probably cause you more problems.

:gpost: Consumable alcohol (ethanol) is the only poison that the body can slowly eliminate from your body. What happens is that it renders alot of your body's functions useless, so without the functions to process medication and use it effectively, you just created a more poisonous concoction that will take longer for your body to get over. If you have no tolerance for strong medications or alcohol, the chances are more likely fatal.

exactly. alcohol and *any* med do not mix whether they are psychotropic or otherwise.

puyo,

this is what you said: "...If you really have to drink, drink LITTLE. I did drank a glass of wine after taking the medicine, but I wouldn't drink too much because I know it could cause my stomach to bleed."

that's the advice i told travis not to take. one should not drink *any* alcohol when they are on meds.
