McDonald's may nix Health Coverage

Yeah that will work.... Who do you think pays when the cost of doing business goes up??

Your in the A/C biz right??? Did your company raise prices when the price of copper went up? What about when stricter freon laws went into effect?

Most did. And what happens when prices rise? Who is affected most?

I think it depends on whether the business you're in is controlled more by a few suppliers (and you're talking about goods as opposed to services) as opposed to many.

But generally, I think health care companies (how many are covered by private companies and how much competition exists for given markets? not that much. It is important that markets with a smaller number of compeititors aren't profiteering in a way where, well, some people can't really afford basic services. I think the Act was supposed to narrow that gap of number of people without Health Care, and the McDonalds case serves as a forewarning that perhaps how to go about accomplishing whatever goal- a healthier America?- isn't the "best" way) need to get realistic about their profits in the upcoming years.

btw, health care is constitutionally protected for state prison inmates, meaning they don't pay a dime for services that aren't medically necessary. Sometimes, I think it's just the approach we have towards health care as a whole. It shouldn't always be about income that determines a need for basic services, especially health care. That's just how I think and I hope you respect that. :dunno:

You are wrong about me.

I'm not job seeking right now.

I do have 3 years of job experience at retail and it isn't hard if economy is in good shape.

It doesn't matter. If anyone prick on job, it mean low chance to find job.
And most deaf want to focus on education while most hearing have job and school at same time.

I wasn't talking just about Health Care companies.....I was joining Beo in an off topic discussion on the mandate.... I imagine most health care companies are already looking at their profits and getting a dose of reality.

Sure, it happened several years ago. Prices went up and everyone was affected by that. So? This is not new.

Everyone???? Did it affect some more than others???

So....

What happens to those companies that are affected by the mandate? Do they raise prices to cover this new higher cost of doing business? Who does that affect most?

Yup, the jobs are getting more limited for me due health issues and in 4 years ago, I used to be very fast stocker until around 2 years ago, I started had back problem so more often and have take painkillers so often, of course it is bad for liver so I decided to work more slower and any pain went much smaller, however my boss hate to see me to work so slow. In one year ago, I started have stomach problem and experience a pain so often, I believe it could be due stress and my stomach is unable to full digest the food so properly before goes in small intestine that cause more pain, even some of foods left in stomach for long time and went backup into esophagus but good news about Nexium do help to prevent food went backup. I decided to become full-time student and quit the job due unable to handle the stress. I noticed that my stomach is improved, especially on pain but still have problem with others.

Now, I need job with good benefit, especially on health plan.

much ado about nothing.

Also, the era of cheap fast food is ending - we're already at its peak and unless we allow GMO crops, it won't be cheaper anymore.

You were in the construction business, right? Don't tell me that the price rise in copper and other material affected just you and your customers. It had a ripple effect and affected EVERYONE, since it caused price rises across the board. It didn't bankrupt me, though, so I don't think it will bankrupt corporations. At the very least it will rein in the price-gouging by private insurance companies. That ought to be a good thing. I haven't immersed myself in reading about this matter, so here goes my old mantra: Of course, I could be wrongggg....

Businesses don't always have to raise their prices when some parts of their business rise. McDonalds. Say cattle prices go up. That doesn't mean my BigMac is going to cost 22% percent higher just like that event. Sometimes other parts of the business costs go down so it may affect the bottom line cash flow.

I think what he's trying to say is well, Greed is when corporations get priced that 22% on that cattle, we're going to do our best to maintain our profits, even if it's 20% and maybe for the consumer, it's "better" to have 10%. McDonalds should cover that cost through some good bookkeeping and not let it go to the mainstream political arena. Maybe someone leaked the possibility of "changes" in the law that could be made because of a business situation like that? And wall street journal jumped on it and so did Fox News. It's what we value...

I think it's just market competition that drives "the cost of doing business". I can invest in a business I believe is "good" or I can invest in a business that return higher rates in a given time, etc. and so on. I could be a consumer of McDonalds and still earn a return for that BigMac I'm eating.

I think a lot of businesses you mention hedge their bets on the Exchange, not to mention many probably also have long term contracts as to the price of meat, for example.

heh. Food is a critical issue. Cattle. I love beef, but dang, so many issues associated with it. But yeah, if you're McDonalds, what do you do?

yeah, it's definitely one to contrast with than just a simpler deduction of a smaller business of "well, that's the cost of doing business and I'm going to pass it on to my customers".

no offense TxGolfer, just pointing out what I see and I could definitely have it wrong. I don't work in a corporation (at least I never have at those upper levels) but I have helped run small businesses.

You were in the construction business, right? Don't tell me that the price rise in copper and other material affected just you and your customers. :

It had no affect on me at all except to cause me to make changes....that's my point. It affected my customers and of course rippled on from there. When my costs rose my prices rose....simple. But I am certain my private customers, the one's in the middle and lower classes were impacted far more by my price increase than my customers in the higher classes. :)

Exactly. I get the feeling corporations can afford it but whine instead. Of course, I could be wrong.
