I sprained my ankle almost 2 months ago and it still hasn't really healed... I am getting an MRI on it as it has already been rechecked for a fracture and it came back negative. So hopefully the MRI shows something so I can know why it's hurting so much! Has anyone had to have surgery for torn ligaments in their ankle?

When I broke my ankle in 3 places, I didn't realise that the ligaments has been stretched until I started limping after skipping quite a bit, and that was about a year or two after the accident.

Had an MRI done and they said my liganments were stretched out. So all I could do was to let the time do the work healing my ankle. Thankfully, I didn't need surgery.

Hope you don't need an operation! Have you been to an physio and see if they can help?

i've been going to physio at least two times a week and they are stumped as to why it isn't getting better that's why we are getting the MRI

Oh shit.. if this is what i think it is... I hope they dont cut your achilles to fix the peroneus ligament...

I almost had to have surgery on my ankle in 1992 when I severely sprained it by sliding to home base during a softball game but they decided against it. To this day, almost 20 years later, i do have problems with it so sometimes I wonder if I had the surgery, maybe I wouldnt have the problems I have now.

Ask your doctor what the long term implications would be if you didnt get surgery. Just a suggestion.
