Marty Can't Seem to Get A Break!

I took Marty out in our yard this morning and Marty started to act strange and then I notice that the coyote is back as he left his calling card. Poor Marty! He is getting over being attacked by a dog and now a coyote is leaving him warning signs that this is his hunting ground. I hope this is not same coyote that came right up to Marty and me and sniff Marty's little butt.
That coyote has lost it fear of people and that it not good.
I saw the vet today and he is very concerned about the coyote going after my dog. :(
 
That's real scary!...Maybe having some mace or pepper spray with you when you take Marty out for his business?...Even a pellet gun.....Or call Animal Control?....Who knows if the coyote might be rabid?....
 
I didn't even realize coyotes lived out east. Wildlife everywhere is rebounding.

In my city last year the police had to kill a mountain lion as it was in a residential neighborhood with lots of children.

Occasionally you can see the Western Coyote here, which is actually a wolf/coyote hybrid.

That is what my vet said too. I called the ACO when the coyote came right up to Marty and me but the ACO could not do anything . If there more complains about the coyote or if it bite or kill a child or dog then something will be gone. A pellet gun might made the coyote mad and want to attack me or my dog. When shot a wild animal is has to be for the kill.
 
I read that pepper spray will work on animals if you spray their noses, not their eyes.
 
Oh no Poor marty. Hope Marty knows that it just happens. Lets see if reba mentioned about the pepper that might work. I haven't google about it.
 
uh oh! Coyotes are stuck between human and natural habitats. This causes lots of conflicts like you describe! We have coyotes now in the rural area where we live and we also had coyotes back where we moved from. When we lived in the city, one day about noon I was leaving my workout place and driving down a residential street to turn around and go back to the main road. I saw a coyote walking across the backyard of a house. I've also had them run out in front of me as I was driving.
When my dad used to go to work downtown, he would often see them, including on the overpasses.
One eve. when we lived there in the city, I let the dogs out into our fenced yard for bathroom, one at a time. Our youngest female-Kaylee -was in season at that time as we wait to spay our girls. I stood at the doorway waiting and saw Kaylee come running back to the house, with flattened ears and wide eyes and she had the stressed, "I'm worried" look. Unfortunately my big 75 pound girl got out before I control the situation and I ran out with her with a flashlight - there was a male coyote in the yard directly next to us, standing at the fenceline and staring into our yard. I imagine he came because he smelled Kaylee's heat. My big girl went wild and he just stood there, very quiet and watchful.

My ex husband and I where driving in a city once and we saw a dog running for it dear life , a coyote was right behind the dog! This is going to happen more often as people keep wanting to build bigger houses and shopping malls .
 
oh no, poor dog! Well, maybe another dog joined in and chased the coyote away.

I am not sure how that ended . But we looked :shock: when saw it happen , it was about 15 years ago and you really did not hear of coyotes hunting your pet in the city in my state.
 
I would have been surprised to see it so obvious I guess. But coyotes do hunt and kill small dogs and see larger dogs as territorial competition at times, so biologically it makes sense, though scary for the dog- and the people-
