Marine In Iraq Views Daughter's Birth In Colorado
Marine In Iraq Views Daughter's Birth In Colorado - Denver News Story - KMGH Denver

DENVER -- Most parents will tell you there is nothing like witnessing the birth of your child. Technology made that happen for a Marine serving in Iraq.

Cecilia Ostrander was born Wednesday at Sky Ridge Medical Center just south of Denver.

Her dad, Cpl. Simon Ostrander watched it all unfold while in front of a monitor in Iraq.

He is on his second tour of duty and was heartbroken he wouldn't be in the delivery room for his daughter's birth.

The Freedom Calls Foundation arranged for a live link utilizing the Internet, web cameras and a satellite station in Iraq.

Ostrander couldn't hold his wife Laura's hand but he was able to help her stay calm and breathe like she was supposed to.

She said it was a great comfort to hear his voice while in labor.

His reaction when she was born? He told 7NEWS, "That’s my baby girl. I got to make sure she is all right. It made me happy."

The Freedom Calls Foundation is supported by donations and is running out of money.
