Today March 2nd is Texas Independence Day !!! I am celebrating !!! Let's fellow Deaf Texans celebrate !!!!!

Texas Independence Day observed
3/2/2006

The ceremonies marking Texas Independence Day started early Thursday morning at the Texas State Cemetery.

Republic Hill was a fitting location to start the day -- many of the graves here belong to the men and women who started the push for Texas independence.

At a ceremony honoring those who fought in the revolution, re-enactors brought the historic time to life.

The goal was to teach the younger generations that the men and women buried here were real--not just the stuff of legends.

"You look back at the people who made Texas what it is. A lot of these people came here and were looking for a second chance. Texas is a land of opportunity. It always comes with a struggle as well. At the same time, it's a place to live out your dream," Texas author Tweed Scott said.

There are about 60 men who fought in the Texas Revolution buried on Republic Hill, including the man who is considered the father of Texas, Stephen F. Austin.

News 8 Austin will air the annual Texas Independence Day parade live beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4.

Hi Mookie,

The white people did not come to steal land. They were simply looking for a place to live and when they heard that if they go South then will stay away from the brutal cold winter months then they had to fight the mexicans and the indians in self defense. That is how it got started.

You need to stop listening to the brainwashing politically correct liberal crowd.

Nope, the indians were here first. They FOUGHT with the indians to take the land from them and they killed the indians for no reason. The white people really stole the indians land. Sweetheart told me because she's around 75 percent Indian so she knows the real deal.

Wrong !!!! I know that the Whites in their camps made friends with the indians camp then settled nearby then the indians camp attacked the Whites camp savagely for no reason then the Whites camp moved away from the indians camp then the indians went on a raid to the Whites camp then then the Whites camp got fed up and fought back in self defense.

It became a national problem then the U.S. Government stepped in and punished the indians camp by taking away the land from the indians because of their ever increasing savage attacks on the White's camp.

I listened to old great-great old white people who were born and grew up during that time period when the whites moved South to stay away from the cold , brutal winter months and The great-great old white people told me that the U.S. news media is covering up and being politically correct and the Whites are telling the truth. It does make sense because Whites by nature are not violent and only fight back in self defense while the indians by nature are savage and violent.

I just told you the story. Indians ARE not violent. They have been around for thousand of years, LONG before whites tried to conquer the land. How would you feel if someone bulldoze your house down to build a new freeway? That's how the Indians felt. Please hush!

Fei Ku is right. You said the word "wrong" which means you did not listen to my side of the story. You should just listen and accept my words. Accord to history of my knowledge, Spain, the hispanic claim this land in Texas first that belong to Mexico under Spain law. Of course, Spain kill Indian as they demand for "gold city". Then white - French was mistake being in Texas because they suppose be in Lousisiana. They couldn't get peace with Indian while can be peace with Spain.

Anyway, later, Mexico betray and disconnect Spain and become Mexico as nation itself. Mexico offer to sell limited land to some white until Moss Austin interest to be one of settler dealer to sell land to white people for Mexico under law.

Sad, for short year, Moss die and Stephan Austin took over. Guess what? Mexico's new president - Santa Ann change and kill white people, include women and children in burn - while alive, if they don't pay tax that much high. Then Austin decide to try to get US to help but instead.. Sam Houston, one of greatest TN (US) solider help TX turn into nation. Then fought back to Mexico after they killed in The Alamo.

There are several different groups that Indian can be violent and some don't. For some reason, people get mistook what they see and cause great mistake.
 
True Texans don't support Confederate include Sam Houston. Few years after merge under US law. Before Lincon become president, Sam Houston encourage people to support under US instead Confederate. But people don't listen them and have no choice but vote to keep slave instead free them. Houston was so angry and try fight with every committee but instead... the committees vote to remove Houston out under Texas state's law. I am aware that Sam Houston have two slave but he did free them after Confederate born. His slave insist to serve for him until death. Also, I know that Sam Houston's son serve as Confederate solider that Sam Houston only be there to support for his only son.

So... stick with real TX flag that relative to Texas Independence Day. ;)
