Man waives hearing in crash that killed deaf woman - San Bernardino County Sun
A man accused of driving his truck into a San Bernardino home in 2010 and killing a deaf woman who was standing in her kitchen has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Christopher James Segura, 20, appeared in San Bernardino Superior Court on Tuesday.
At a preliminary hearing, a judge listens to witness testimony - usually from law enforcement officers - and may view evidence to determine if sufficient probable cause exists to hold the defendant for trial on the charges.
Court records state Segura faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
Segura is scheduled to return to court Feb. 1 to be arraigned on the charges. He is out of custody on $250,000 bond.
California Highway Patrol officers say Segura drove a Chevrolet Avalanche through a brick wall and about 10 feet into a house in the 26200 block of Croyden Street, near Arden Avenue and East Date Street.
Glynna Rose Folkens, 45, was in the kitchen getting a glass of water for her mother when Segura's truck barreled through the wall and struck her.
Folkens later died at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
