Man to die for leaving girl to be eaten by gators

Medical examiner says 5-year-old was alive when alligators attacked her

MIAMI - A man convicted of murder for leaving a 5-year-old girl to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades was sentenced to death Monday.

A defense attorney said Harrel Franklin Braddy, who already served time in prison for attempted murder but was released early for good behavior, had befriended Shandelle Maycock and her daughter, Quatisha, through his involvement in church outreach programs.

Maycock testified that Braddy showed up at her house in 1998 and grew enraged when she asked him to leave.

Prosecutors said Braddy drove the girl’s mother to a remote sugarcane field, choked her to unconsciousness and left her to die. Maycock woke up bleeding and disoriented, but managed to flag down help.

Braddy drove the girl to a section of Interstate 75 in the Everglades known as Alligator Alley and dropped her in the water beside the road, prosecutors said. She was alive when alligators bit her on the head and stomach, a medical examiner said.

Authorities found the girl’s body two days later, her left arm missing and her skull crushed, prosecutors said.

Braddy, 58, was convicted in July of first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and other charges.

Judge Leonard E. Glick also sentenced Braddy to three consecutive life terms for kidnapping and burglary with an assault charges. He also got 30 years in prison for the attempted murder of Maycock, 15 years for child neglect causing great bodily harm and five years for attempted escape.

“I’m saddened for both families,” said Braddy’s attorney, G.P. Della Fera.

Maycock sobbed during the initial sentencing as she told jurors how her life without her only child would never be the same. The girl she nicknamed “Candy” had just started kindergarten and loved writing her name and singing along with the church choir.

“The State is grateful that Quatisha’s small voice was finally heard, and that the defendant received the sentence he so rightfully earned,” prosecutor Abbe Rifkin said in a statement.

What an unbelievable... :pissed:

:jaw: ....Why don't we just throw him alive in the water so he can be eaten by a bunch of alligators just like he did to this little girl....He doesn't deserves to be in prison not after what he did to the mother and the only daughter she had ... :(

Just give him a bar of soap and let the "alligators" in the prison take care of him.

OMG! Poor girl..wonder if she survived today? I sure hope so...

I would dump that man in water with full of HUNGRY gators and see how he feels! UGH!

This breaks my heart about the little girl. Why? :tears:

He must die slowly, like send him in the box of rats, rattlesnakes, cobra, and any poison snake as his death sentence.

Looks like he had a problem forming relationships. Maybe he got mad at them and killed them for rejecting him. That's a stupid and immature way of dealing with rejection.

immature people :rl:

What a monster. It's sickening to think that there really are people capable of such cruelty.

I have to agree what a monster that bastard is so sick doing that to a innocent years old young girl. He should be thrown in the water and let the alligator eat him! But sad facts people are always capable of such heartless cruelty since we live in a crazy dangerous world. I hope that child survive. I am sure she will not forget that terrible ordeal she been through.:hyper::wiggle::whip:

I agree with my sister here, I would throw his sorry ass with those alligators, he doesn't deserved a life in prison no way in hell he does.

This is so disturbing to even think about that 5 years old girl. It breaks my heart. :(

I agree you all of you guys' comment..

Break my heart goes out bleed and cry!

He's really monster... deserved stay behind the bar but need new room mate full of baby gators will eat him.

Damn..what a horrific way to do that to a little girl??? I ought to get a shotgun and shoot that stupid guy's balls off and shove him into that pond for the alligator to eat.. geez....

Hmmmmm at some of the extreme responses here....... any one of you against the death penalty? Raise your hand....

:gulps: and :raising my hand:

Hahahaha, Angel, that was funny but thanks for your honesty; I know you and most others here would not really do that in real life even though I feel for and understand your initial reaction. If that was my child, I think that I, too, would feel the same way but just for a few seconds because we are civilized people; we do not lower ourselves to the level of these people who do unspeakable things to others. This also applies to us who DO believe in the death penalty.

Yes you're absolutely right about this...Remember Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber? he murdered small children because he was angry at the government, and when he was executed on June 11, 2001, he was completely remorseless like he doesn't even care how many children he killed, so the threat of death is useless and the studies even show no real drop in crime from the death penalty and not enough to strike fear in the hearts of those who would break the laws..So why must we take a life for taking another person's life? and the Bible also says that we must forgive but I do understand why many believe in the death penalty, it only seems fair if you take a person's life that your life should be taken too...I know what you mean by lower ourselves to the level of these people who do unspeakavle things to others, but you know me, I don't say those things in real life anyhow...

Thanks for the good response, Angel. Here's what I TRY to do here online: I say the same things here online that I say in real life.
