Unusual Form Of Advertising Gets Lots Of Attention

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- It sounded like an unusual way for a Ponte Vedra man to make money. He asked companies to pay him to wear T-shirts with their logos.

Now, a year after he launched the unusual form of advertising, Jason Sadler has made thousands of dollars and has received a lot of attention.

"Last year I made $84,000," Sadler said.

Sadler asked companies to pay him $1 for each day of the year.

Every day, he'd talk up the company on a self-produced web show broadcast right out of his own house.

More than 600,000 people watched the live video stream last year.

First came the web following -- 20,000 Twitter fans, 5,000 Facebook friends and more than 1.5 million hits to his Web site, Home | I Wear Your Shirt.

The copy cats followed, and then an unexpected media blitz.

"Charles Gibson did a story on me. Steve Hartman and Katie Couric," Sadler said.

The hype started when Channel 4 interviewed Sadler last year when he was just starting out.

Sadler has since become so popular with his web audience that this year he's expanding into product endorsement. He's not even an athlete, but he will be the face of Tommy John briefs and black socks.

He'll also make twice as much money this year because he's doubled the fee and the sponsors are still rolling in.

"We're talking to a Pizza Hut. We're talking to a jeans company," Sadler said.

You may be wondering why someone would want to advertise on this man's chest.

"It's not clicking on things, it's not just seeing a billboard," Sadler said.

It's interaction. The perfect hybrid of social media and product placement, and maybe the future of advertising altogether.

If you're wondering what happens to all the T-shirts, all 365 from 2009 will be donated to Hearts and Hands, a charity that gives resources to children and families in Africa.
