he US Department of Transportation reports the average lifespan of a vehicle is twelve years, or about 128-thousand miles.

One Topeka man has a driving record that puts that average to shame.

Chet Belisle loves driving his 1983 Lincoln Towncar.

“I like the ride, the style, the weight, I feel safe,” said Belisle.

Chet's been driving coast to coast for twenty five years, and his pride and joy has never broken down.

“The Lincoln gets great gas mileage, 22 mpg on the highway, 15-16 in town,” said Belisle.

The odometer has rolled over a couple times... But Chet says that's expected when a car hits the one million three hundred thousand mile mark.

“This Lincoln can’t last too much longer,” said Belisle.

And the secret to the car's longevity lies under the heavy metal hood which Chet says his mechanics are used to lifting.

“3.2 v engine and that things got power,” said Belisle.

Chet began logging miles and tracking tune ups the day he drove the car off the lot, it only had fifty three miles then..

“Lincoln cant last too much longer,” said Belisle.

Since then, he's rebuilt the engine and transmission, and made full use of life time warrantees on nearly every other part.

For now Chet says he'll stick with his Lincoln until it stops running... Next stop? On to San Antonio.

Chet paid twenty two hundred dollars for his Lincoln when it was brand new.

Chet says he's tried to sell it to used car dealerships, but no one will buy his Lincoln because it has too many miles and they can't back up the warranty.

There is other cars that has million miles on the odometer, in fact, there is ONE car that has almost 3 million miles! The most recently update is 2.7 million miles, his goal was 3 million but there is some doubts about that because of the drivers age and health. Here is details and photos:

CanadianDriver: Feature - Irv Gordon's Volvo P1800S

(the update is now 2.7 as per this article:

RVINE, Calif. Irv Gordon who as the first person to drive two million miles in the same car and has taken more road trips than anybody -- has some advice for families preparing a summer vacation on the road: ditch the fancy resorts and theme parks and take a drive to a small town.

Gordon, a retired science teacher from Long Island, New York, clocked his historic two millionth mile in his shiny red 1966 Volvo P1800 in 2002 while driving down Times Square in New York City. He is only 300,000 miles from reaching the 3 million mile mark. Gordon gets his kicks driving his Volvo on Route 66 and just about every other picturesque highway in the United States. He estimates he has stopped at more than 5,000 small towns in this car over the past 42 years for coffee and conversations with the locals.

He's sure a traveling man.

US Postal Service vehicles exceeds Million miles easily. I dunno if that count toward Million Mile member or just for those who are one who owns car.

I've reached 225,000 miles on my 1989 Mazda 323 before I sold it to my friend for $100 buck after he broke the CV joint during test drive  (I told him go easy on clutch cuz CV joints are really bad and making clicking noise when turning. But he accidentally snapped clutch and he got the last of CV joint :rofl2: )

If it diesel It nothing

I know lot diesel truck reach 2,000,000 or more miles.

But you don't see gas motor reach that lot miles. most time they worn out at 400,000 to 600,000 miles then go to junkyard.

Diesel engine life is longer than gas (petrol) engine.
