Man arrested despite legally carrying gun in Florida

It isn't...unless the officer might feel you're not being truthful and hiding the gun ??....or might be just policy when they find out you are a CCW holder, but don't have the gun on your person....does it give them the right to check ur vehicle?

That doesn't jive because, the officer has already seen that you are a CCW holder AND he is stopping you for a reason other than anything to do with guns. Now if he is stopping you because your car looks like the one that just robbed the WalMart down the road, then that's a horsie of a whole'nuther color,. In that scenario, of course, you just tell him you don't have your gun and if he wants to check, let him.

it is my understanding that you should only notify an officer if you have a gun on yourself or in vehicle. if you are not carrying, you are not required to notify.

Ok....

Ok, guess there are no cops on this forum, I went through training to be one. If you have a gun in your possession ( weither it be on you or in the vehicle reguardless ) you must inform the officer before he approaches. Reason being, he will first call for backup in case there is a struggle of any sort and also as a witness and second set of eyes/safety.
Look at it this way,
DRIVER:Officer I have a CCW... no gun on me. ( did he mention the glove box or under the seat?
OFFICER: license and regs...
DRIVER: its in my glove box, (or drops it and reaches under seat) BANG !

Where in the second case, the backup will be watching through passenger side and see anything suspecious ( gun in box or reaching under seat ) and alarm the primary officer.

Or cop frisks and misses gun in holster ( or not frisk like the guy in florida ) turn his back for a minute and BAM... bad news.

So yeah, the cop was alarmed when he seen he was armed, he wasnt prepared at all, and caught off guard.

Still.....

Deputy Alan Cox is a dick. Too many cops are like this. They were pricks growing up and it carries over to their job. They want the job to be in a position of power. The few bad cops give the large number of good ones a bad name.

I carry and I have been stopped. When I told the cop I had a gun, he asked where it was. I said in the seat beside me under my jacket, he said ok, that's good. Not every cop freaks out and turns into a major dickhead.

If it was me I would aim for I see nothing wrong with the cop drawing on the idiot ccw holder. If it was me I would be aiming for the idiot ccw holders head. If I get stopped while in my car I am always sure to have my hands on top of the steering wheel. It is just common sense
