Looking for Option for Texting

MY GF of the past couple of years is hearing impaired and so we talk a lot via texting; either to her phone or her computer. However, I can only do it from my computer as I have no cell phone [well, none with service].

I, myself, am disabled and so am on Soc Sec. So my income is less than $1,000 a month, meaning I cannot afford to get a cell phone plan. But I would really like to be able to reach her when I am not home.

So I was wondering if there is any cell plan that has little or no actual phone time, but a lot of messaging [I do have an old phone I can have reactivated]. I was also told about text pagers, but I know nothing about those.

I was hoping that someone here might know of something that would be within my very limited budget and that I might find out about these pagers [I googled, but there was an overload of information].

I hope somebody can come up with better plan than what I am about to tell you. I can use the better plan I see after this post!

I use a pre-paid cell phone so my family can get in touch with me. I bought the cell phone for $15 to $20 and then the card which can be $20 to over $100. I try to use the ones with double minutes. You can find the cellphone/cards at many stores and activate it by phone or online. TRACFONE Nationwide Prepaid Wireless You could use the minutes only whenever you are out, to make it last long.

Yeah, my roommate has one of those. He said that each text message takes a half a minutes each, which could end up being a bit pricey. But it is a good viable option if nothing better turns up.

30 + tax about 35 to 42 dollar a month (depending on your state and if you opt for insurance or not) is out of your price range for a full working data phone?
Which can include unlimited data (Internet and Email and IMs and Laptop tethering) and also unlimited txt or 5,000 txt message (at&t) included.

If you go to prepay phone and spend 20 then add another 20 in a month which could be 40 a month and keep adding to the pre-pay phone as you used it up before 1 month is up then would be wiser and cheaper to go with one of the Wireless Provider Deaf/HOH plans which includes more than a prepay phone can offer.

Just an advice.

You can always buy a unlocked sidekick 2 for $50 or so or 3 for roughly $100-200 and get plan under T-mobile for $30 a month with unlimited texting. It's handy with a qwerty keyboard rather than with numberic keypad. It's the cheapest way to go texting with a qwerty keyboard in my opinion.

You look like forget that t-mobile selling sidekick id for 50 bucks right now. Gonna check site: www.t-mobile.com ..if you are eligilbe for credit approve or upgrade. You better make to call T-mobile first.

Plus you can add unlimited text messages on SKiD without data plan. Unimited text messages/sms for 15 bucks. Its up to you.

NOTE: T-Mobile could possbily change unlimited message plan's price without notify. But I might be wrong.

Man, this has been a great help, thank you all!

I'm almost embarrassed to say I really know nothing of cell phones as I only ever had a prepaid one - and that was several years ago. I just never had enough need that I could justify the cost. I was really hoping that there were plans for deaf/HOH. I highly suspected there would be but I wasn't sure.

This will help my GF a lot too as she doesn't know about that either. She had been paying a fortune on her phone - over $400 some months, until I found her a plan that had 3000 texts a month. I knew there had to be better though [she hates using the TTL [I hope I got that right] so I usually make important calls for her.

But this is wonderful news and I can't wait to tell her about it.

I wrote a post about carriers and Deaf/HOH plan they offer.

But it an old post and now Alltell offer Deaf/HOH plan which is not listed in my post and I am sure some of those devices are no longer use or been change with a newer model.
