This happened about 30 miles from here, I have a couple of friends who were employed there one of which works on maintenence, I have yet to hear from her so please say a prayer that she is alright. There were about 20-25 workers in the plant at the time of the explosion as production was halted in observance of Easter. The plant employs about 800 workers.

Me and mom have sat down and said that likely both poultry plants will be getting laid-off workers from the Cargill plant. (I work at PJP and she works at Wayne Farms).

This has made national news. Here is the link:

Thankfully we have a thriving poultry industry here that can give these displaced laid off workers a bit of a cushion to land on.

OH wow!

The Blast=the fridge exploded!

sheesh.. cargills have a lot of companies in Florida.

and they have alot of ammonia pipes as well. I wonder if someone was tampering with it.

I will keep them and their families in my prayer.

I used to work for a Chicken processing plant. so I am familiar with some of the dangers.

i saw that on the news and was sad to hear about that. I hope for those people who lost their jobs find another job so they can get money to pay for their living. sigh.. Praying for them!

That so hard for the workers. I hope they don't lose their jobs, and that they have a safe work environment. Most people don't appreciate the hard work that people do so we can have food on our tables. I'm thankful for all workers in chicken and meat processing plants. We have the Purdue chicken plant in South Carolina, and I have friends that work there.

Reba our Wayne Farms plant here in D-ville ships orders quite regularly to Purdue - specifically a cut termed 'Fat Free' (aka Charlie at PJP). Think 10 car sized combo crates of breast meat a DAY! Lordy I hated cutting fat-free - it kills your hand. I hated those days I would see the cut sheet calling for 10 of Purdue - it meant fat-free all day!

Oh BTW for an update of what I know - the freezer part was largely undamaged but however the production area is a total loss. No word yet on whether or not they will rebuild. Also this same plant had just built a $40 million addition to the plant - it was burned in the fire.

Thankfully however we do have a thriving poultry industry and so far just this week PJP has hired 6 new workers on dayshift alone I have no idea however if they came from Cargill or not but I should find out in a day or two when I get a chance to speak with them.

Ouchie!

One of my friends that works at Purdues, cuttin' the chickens all day long; guess what her favorite food is? Fried chicken! No matter how many chickens she cuts all day, she loves to eat fried chicken almost every day!

How about you?

oh god I dont even like chicken anymore knowing who's sneezed on it! I most especially however cannot stand breastmeat - and yup my job right now is QC'ing the breastmeat.

I will still eat chicken occassionally but not like I used to. I prefer fish - at least the fish cant get contaminated (I hope) as beef is questionable in light of the slaughterhouse videos, and chicken is nastier than you think (especially considering where that chicken landed in the floor and it got put back on the line to 'save the yield'.)
