This is the first time I've had to use these features of linking and looping flash files in Dreamweaver.

Does anybody know a solution for linking flash .swf file to another url page in html?

ex. I want to be able to click directly on a flash .swf file then be redirected to another regular url page. Like clicking on an image to take me to another page. I still havent been able to figure that out even with tutorial and I couldnt find a specific solution in the search engines either.

Also, how do I set a specific 5 sec loop for that flash file? (file has to replay itself automatically without the page having to be refreshed manually). I'd like to avoid fixing this in Flash directly, but rather doing everything in Dreamweaver.

I use both DW 4 and DW MX. Thanks in advance!

you have to select the flash from Objects tool which has flash symbol. Then you choice what flash file to place on web page. After insert flash file, on web page, select the file - sudden, propreties will show and let you to edit as you want to preview, loop, etc.

I already did that. That was the easy part. The properties don't show an option of linking URL, and no setting looping times either. I saw autoplay and loop, which I chose.. but nothing more beyond them.

Thanks though :)

I thought of that in the first place and that was to be my last resort, because I really wanted to use DW to do that. Why not explore more of DW for this feature? Oh well. I don't have the original .fla file to edit it, but I'll ask somebody for it. Cheers! :D

Hi Lizagirly...sure wish I was more adept in those types of software and help you out with it...but I know zilch,
Hope you get that solved. ;)

Thanks Goldgirly! I got a confirmation from my customer saying he would get the original .fla file from his pal who made the flash animation. If I have the .fla then the problem is solved! .swf movies are just movies.. you can't edit them even in Flash, you just need the original file like .fla that it was made in! It's like .psd being changed into .jpg in Photoshop. Just sux that I can't solve it using Dreamweaver only... I've had other experts telling me that I should do this in flash, instead of DW too. Hehehe oh well, it's a good solution too! ;)

Hey Liza,

I know you said that you are getting the FLA but -- one solution for only having the SWF before, You can create a new FLA and load the SWF into that using the loadMovie action. Really simple.. then you can create one big invisible button over the FLA and have it link to whereever you want it to go to. Let me know if that makes any sense.

Flash/Dreamweaver Site

I am currently making a site with a friend, and we are running into various obstacles, such as having to create various .fla files for different pages, due to the need to change the stage resolution for the content. This not only increases the amount of loading our site will have to do, but it also makes organizing and actionscripting a lot harder. I currently cannot figure out how to link two separate .swf files to each other :werd: .

Is this simple, or does it require some tinkering?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Right, I've been trying to get around using Flash to link the .swf, and the only option I have come up with is this...
Create a document in software such as Photoshop (not Paint or anything rubbish) the same size as your .swf file.
Then make a new layer, and delete the background layer. Paint a tiny amount of colour on the new layer (which should be transparent) and then save the entire image as a PNG image, which preserves transparency. Then, on DW, create a new AP Div (absolute position) and place the transparent image in this div. Then place the div over the swf. (phew)
Right, now create a hotspot over the entire image of the transparent png and link that hotspot to your page.
Voila!
Might not work for some stuff, and you can potentially do many for one swf.
This is the only solution I've found, and it works very well for me!
:) hope this helps ^_^
