Life of being homeless

When I lived in Boston the homeless people would sleep in the Goodwill donations bins for clothes . The hole was big enough for a person to climb into and during the bad weather and in the winters the bin was a great place to keep warm and dry. Goodwill out a stop to this by making the holes smaller and harder to climb into. A lot of people thought that wrong of Goodwill to keep the homeless people out of bins and this included me too. I also came home day one in winter and home a dead homeless man lying right next to my apartment building.
I called the polices to report this and the cop wanted to know why I thought the man was dead. I told the cop he was not breathing anymore.

The commenters mistook her for a man. She is the one who took the photos of the homeless people. The photos are good and I like them. I understand about homeless people of all walks of life. They are suffering and down on their luck. As for the drugs, that is really bad and they can not fend for themselves. But people who were not drug addicts or alcohol addicts are having problems with financial or not able to find jobs. They need help very much. My sister work for the homeless shelter and she tried the best to help them to be on their feet again. :(

Huh? The photographer IS a man. I saw this yesterday on fb, I've "liked" policy mic so I see all their articles. But this time I clicked on the photographers name at the begining and it's a link to his Flickr. Those are some great photos, a lot of them on there are better, much better, than the ones featured in the article.

I do have empathy for some homeless people....but believe me, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be.....Many places in my City, they gather behind hospitals...get free medical in the ER....and lots of times, free food.....

Those homeless who are street-wise (street smart) know just what to do and live a life free of any responsibilities....they like it that way! My City has also built another Homeless Shelter...free dental, free meds....and a bed to sleep on, and are free to do whatever they want to during the day and as long as they remain drug-free, they are allowed to stay.

You're so out of touch with reality . I spoke to a homeless man one winter
and asked him where was he sleep-in and the guy said he was sleeping in a tent under a bridge and he was very cold. I went home and made a phone called to a shelter for homeless people and I was told they had NO more beds and that they had 16 more people than they set up for. There is only one homeless close to my city . One homeless was found lying on the ground during the winter and he had a infection on a foot and that foot had to be cut off. The guy the was living in a tent under a bridge did not like being homeless. A lot of families become homeless when the housing market crash and they lose their homes. They DID NOT LIKE IT!!

I can imagine it's very cold in Massachuttes....where you live...as for being out of touch with reality...ahh...not so much. I know of several homeless people too...and have talked to them also over the years....have gotten a lot of input. There are so many places in my City where they get free food, clothes shoes and free medical....

As for those homeless who are also drug-addicted...then that's another story. But there are programs the City offers them to attend when they get out of jail or whatever. It's up to them.

I can't agree, having seen too many people who sleep in the middle of the sidewalk... because there's a vent from the nearby building's heating system or underground garage and the heat will stop them freezing to death. Banks provide an indoor space around their ATMs, and used to lock them unless you shoved in your access card. People would let homeless people into those spaces knowing they might have just saved that person from dying in the snow.

On top of the addictions and/or horrible experiences that led to them being out on the street.

Okay, you are right that a man who quit the bank and went out to the streets to photograph homeless people.

I guess I was looking at the top of the article that there was a woman name Laura Dimon. I thought she is the photographer but now I know that she put all the photos in her blog or web. I misread that. Sorry. I understand now.

RR has a point. Homelessness can differ place to place, including population and so forth. We have a tiny city for the homeless in our town. The nearby city does not.

We have something called "Tent City" in St. Petersburg. ( Neighboring town ) It's where the homeless can go like a campground. They have tents and showers with bathrooms there. It's rather handy and gives them something at least. We have a lot of shelters available as well.
