Why is it that people like to read news item in the newspapers, and then post them for everyone to see. Then you see a list of posters who does nothing but give their own highly biased opinions about the situation, with no mentions of how the situation could have been remediated or what could be done to prevent more of these things from happening. Like I mentioned in my another blog, people love to be voyageurs and snoop into the lives of others. They NEVER talk about the positive things of other people, but LOVE to talk about the negative things and misdoings of others. It seems to me rather pathetic that the world would rather to be so self-involved in the rumourmongering concering the misfortunes of other people, who are not even remotely existent in their lives.
One might be inclined to state that it is our responsibility to ensure that moral values be upheld, and all that, and how it takes a village to raise an idiot, erm, a child. It is my opinion that the laws are already set there, and we should leave it to the law enforcement agencies and justice departments to do their own responsibilities to enforce these values.
For example, a woman and her son was recently jailed because they were involved in having sex with each other, and having children. Sadly, these things happen, but does it grant us, as "spectactors of misdoings," the right to jeer and judge against them? Justice has arrested them, sentenced them and they are doing their time now. Why do we even care about what happens in other people's live, to a point where we have to voice our own opinions and judgments about them?
Or rather, I suggest that we take these cues of the misdoings and tragedies on the news as lessons for us to learn from, to appreciate the roles that we have in our lives and the roles that we play in this society as whole. Not only does a society depend on everyone to follow its moral codes and values, but it definitely starts with an individual. If the individual does his part to make sure that nothing bad happens from their own actions, if a collection of individuals come together and contribute positively towards the society and work with each other in a co-operative fashion, if compassion can be developed and acheived amongst them, then we can live in a society free of judgments and jeerings.
Unfortunately, we do not live in such a society. Our society revels in rating the misfortunes of others as a way to make ourselves feel "superior" over others. Compassion is lost here, and desire and greed occurs here. We keep up our own airs and try to look good so that we wont be judged, yet we love to judge others. And to what end? We are so busy resisting to accept the life as it is, that we die judging people.
