Why Obama's healthcare claim is a 'winner'

'Lie of the Year': The political fact-checking website, PolitiFact, says Obama's statement, "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," has earned its 'Lie of the Year' award in 2013.

"If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," President Barack Obama said.

He said it not just once, but at least 37 times in recent years, according to PolitiFact.com.

That statement eventually earned Obama a "Pants on Fire" rating from the political fact-checking site.

Now, Obama has garnered PolitiFact's annual "Lie of the Year" award. And its readers agreed.

In a poll, 59 percent rated Obama's claim as the biggest political fib of the year. The runner up, according to the poll, was also a healthcare whopper:

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said, "President Obama just granted all of Congress an exception" to Obamacare during an August speech in Iowa. But only 8 percent of PolitiFact readers voted for that as the year's biggest fabrication.

In fact, in four of the past five years, falsehoods about healthcare have earned the PolitiFact "Lie of the Year" award.

Personally, if I had one of the plans that canceled.....I couldn't stand there and honestly say I liked it, and accuse the pres of lying.

Last year I was checking on line for independent ins policies, just for me. Compressive packages were over $700 a month, more than rent. They had more affordable plans $200 a month that covered nothing but hospitalizations. No doctor visits, perscriptions, X-rays etc etc etc ONLY hospitizations, for 200/month. They were crap so I didn't buy then. If I had it would have been canceled. But you wouldn't find me telling anybody I liked me piece of crap plan. I don't think he lied, but I do think he gave done people a little to much credit for being intelligent enough to recognize hey were being ripped off and NOT liking it.

I think Teds "lie" was worse, it was a bald face lie and he knew it. Congress is the opposite of exempt, they're THE ONLY people in the country that absolutely HAVE to buy insurance on the ACA. AND the only reason they lost their federal insurance is because a GOP congressman added an amendment making them have to use it. Ted knew that.

The reason why there's so many lies about it is because if fear mongering. Most people in this country are very very very misinformed about the ACA because they've been listening to politicians and media lying about it, fear mongering.

A politician that lies? Who knew?

I'd say more, but I smell a locked thread.

After Obama's dishonest about claim with insurance, slower economic recovery and some people don't get subsidies under ACA, even if they are low income or middle class, and healthcare isn't affordable as I thought, that put me to become completely independent voter. I'm not affiliated with democrat or republican.

Yes, Obama lied about keep the insurance, but there are some positive and negative during his presidency. Expanding the coverage for dependent until 26 years old and improving the Medicare, such as close the doughnut hole are positive to me. Some of GWB presidency have positive too.

There are many Americans don't like presidents, no matter if they are republican or democrat.

I love political joke and getting laugh at crazy drama in American politics.
