If they are targeting specifically Joe Wilson's campaign donation page and not others then it certainly sounds like a bunch of leftist, whiny, sore loser hackers.

From a few days ago.

U.S. Representative Joe Wilson’s fundraising page was hit by a suspected politically motivated cyber attack which brought it down for more than 12 hours, said the CEO of the company that hosts the Congressman’s payment processing site.

Tom Serres, CEO of Piryx, said Wilson’s donation page was hit by a “massive denial of service attack” at about 4:15 p.m. Friday and has continued through Saturday. Piryx also handles the fundraising payment processing page for Reporting Michigan, whose payment processing page also went down because of the attacks. All 150 clients of Piryx were impacted by the attacks, which Serres stated weren’t resolved until early Saturday morning.

Piryx is located in Austin, Texas. Serres said the attack involved generating millions and millions of queries to the Wilson’s donation page and overwhelming it. Serres said Wilson’s page was the only one targeted. He said the backup site for Wilson was also attacked, leading the CEO to suspect it was politically motivated.

“From what we can tell, it seems like it was a politically motivated attack,” Serres said. “It was a pretty significant attack. It is still going on now. I wouldn’t say we are out of the woods just yet.”

Wilson, a Republican from South Carolina, interrupted President Barack Obama’s speech Wednesday on national health care by shouting out, “You lie.” Wilson apologized for yelling out while the President spoke.

And a recent update:

Rep. Joe Wilson chose an unconventional venue in which to level an attack on President Obama Wednesday night: a joint session of Congress.

Now Wilson's opponents are counterattacking him in an increasingly popular venue for political mayhem: cyberspace.

Sources close to the South Carolina congressman charge that hackers have blitzed his campaign Web site JoeWilsonforCongress.com with a series of attacks that periodically shut down the page.

The South Carolina Republican jeered at Obama "You lie!" during his health care reform speech to Congress on Wednesday. Though Wilson's Democratic opponent Rob Miller raised hundreds of thousands of dollars following the outburst, Wilson saw a fundraising windfall of his own, raising $1,000,000 in online campaign contributions since Wednesday night. Now sources familiar with Wilson's campaign say there's a concerted effort by hackers to flood the congressman's Web site and keep him from raising money.

Wilson already raised over $1 million dollars and surely much more if it weren't for the cyber attacks. I guess those hackers don't want to see Miller, Wilson's campaign opponent, get embarrassed seeing how Wilson's donation has surpassed Miller's. And the fact they are a bunch of LOSERS and CRYBABIES! Heck, there is no reason to attack any politicians' campaign donation pages. Doing so is an overt sign that they are truly worried about their opponents ability to raise and make money for their campaign coffers.

Majority of the hackers do it for fun. They probably do not even care about the political Issues. They see it as a challenge.

Name an incident where a Democrat's donation page was hacked.

All this has the writing of a politically motivated attack.

Are you condoning this hacking into other opponents' donation pages?

Arrrrrrrrgh.

Can't you just accept some people are full of malice with no particular reason other than patting themselves on the back? Hackers tend to be fairly secular and apathetic toward any political agendas.

The one thing that made Joe Wilson's donation page stand out? He got popularized on the news for his "you lie" comment. Same reason why someone would hack Obama's campaign website-- he was popularized in the media as well.

You haven't answered my question.

Regardless, their actions are unacceptable for any parties.

Already answered it in the other thread.

It's malicious, and it's infringing on other people's rights-- so therefore, not acceptable.

However I concede my sense of justice because it's a largely anonymous world on the Internet. Yes, people can trace it, however there would be so many back-doors and redirections, that the person is effectively anonymous anyway unless he's a moron and didn't cover his tracks.

How can you punish someone that doesn't "exist?"

Many do get caught and arrested.

There is always digital footprints left behind.

Yes, when there's a footprint...there's a track that goes back to the original starting point.

yea.... the original starting point of the server is in.... Czech or China. They're not stupid. They know what they're doing.

If it can be tracked. Many people that to hack in a high profile computer is usually untraceable.

Kind of similar to the way that the right extremists and Teabagger fringe target Obama singularly with cries of "Muslim", "Hitler", "Socialist", "Marxist", pics of African witch doctors, etc., huh?

Don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot?

yes... no need to explain it to me. I wrote documentations on frauds and hacking for organization while back but BabyBlue is more well-informed about this :)

Yeah, I'm pretty certain that the hacker wasn't a member of the Teabaggers. No doubt the hacker is bright enough to cover their tracks.:giggle:
