KENT, Washington (AP) -- A man who placed a lava lamp on a hot stovetop was killed when it exploded and sent a shard of glass into his heart, police said.

Philip Quinn, 24, was found dead in his trailer home Sunday night by his parents.

"Why on earth he was heating a lava lamp on the stove, we don't know," Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen said Monday.

After the lamp exploded, Quinn apparently stumbled into his bedroom, where he died Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Police found no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

I guess we shouldn't heat up the lava lamps. :O

Either it was an old lava lamp or he heated it wrong.

Lava lamps are heated up by light bulbs underneath them. The heat gets hot enough for the wax to become liquid, but not hot enough for burning anything. The stove probably made the lamp hotter than a light bulb normally would. That probably resulted as going beyond the lamp's limit... ka-boom! The lava lamp heated normally can be picked up bare-handed. ;)

First of all.. This is a pure trailer trash america right there. Second of all, as I posted on another forum, I do not believe that there was any drug/booze abuse.
