HI there,

My lappy is now using a Linux live CD till I get new hard drive.

My WinXP on the hard drive; okay after I watched my tv, came back to my lappy to check email and etc, I move a mouse it's didn't response at all, no show up on the display. I pressed the power button to hold 5 seconds till it's off then turned power on, the screen says "Operation System Missing" till I heard the funny sound "Clank clank" then "Clank" once and repeatly same clanking every seconds. I guess my hard drive is dying.

I'm trying to find a Hitachi Travelstar 40 GB 4200 RPM model DK23EA-40 at sony tech support and they said they're no longer in the stock anymore.

I need to find that hard drive must be compatible on Sony Vaio PCG GRZ610 with restoration CD sets.. the other kind of hard drive would not work with restoration CD installation..

Thanks :)

The sony tech told me, it;s only runs ATA-5 drive that sony recommend use hitachi 40 GB for restoration CD (they have auto formating and self-partationing require a 40 GB have to split 15 GB and 25 GB).

Hmm usally restoration cd check motherboard and vendor specific BIOS.

My workplace's laptop hdd died. We have two laptop exactly same model. So Got new hdd and make copy image from good laptop to new hdd then replace new hdd on bad laptop. It's work perfect and no problem for 3 months now. Old hdd was IBM 20GB. Now new hdd is 40GB hitachi.
