Labor pledges $6m Ringwood East deaf facilty and school overhaul - Election 2010 - News - Maroondah Leader
A DEAF facility and primary school in Ringwood East will be rebuilt if Labor wins the November 27 election.
Speaking at Eastwood Primary School earlier today, Deputy Premier Rob Hulls said a re-elected State Government would spend $6 million to revitalise the site.
Mr Hulls said the upgrade would include new classrooms, a library, specialist teaching spaces and administration areas.
Labor’s candidate for the marginal Liberal-held seat of Kilsyth, Vicki Setches, said the announcement showed education remained Labor’s top priority.
“Today’s announcement is great news for parents, students and staff of Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility and I’m sure it will be welcomed by the school community,’’ Ms Setches said.
Kilsyth state Liberal MP David Hodgett said he supported the rebuild, and the Coalition would consider the project if it won the election.
“The Coalition is very supportive of the rebuild of the Eastwood Primary School and deaf facility which is an excellent example of integrated primary education for children who are Deaf or Hearing Impaired,’’ he said, noting he had supported the school’s inclusion in the Building Future’s program.
“If elected we would consider the funding options available to us and timeline to commence construction of the project.”
