KWA ill-treats its deaf and dumb staffer | | | Indian Express
In an act unbecoming of a government body, the Kerala Water Authority(KWA) has denied water connection to an employee of the water treatment plant at Aluva.
Antonio Jolly, a deaf and dumb, a native of Mulavukadu, has been applying for water connection since August 2009.
Even his request with the special permission of the Central Zone chief engineer for the application form was rejected by the authorities, indicating that there was no ownership certificate and receipt for the payment of taxes.
When he applied for the water connection again with the required documents, it was rejected on the pretext that the officials were unable to find the house with a proper house number.
Though there was an inspection later on Antonio’s request, his application was spurned again by saying that 30 metres of pipes were required to give him the connection.
Later, to obtain the connection as street main extension, he was asked to remit Rs 9,000 by the executive engineer, Public Health Division. As directed, he paid the sum to the Water Authority in February.
The assurance from the Minister was also ended in vain. “This is a part of harassing the association members in the Opposition,” alleged P O Devassy, president of Kerala Water Authority Staff Association
