Justice Dept says Wells Fargo to pay up to $16 million to settle complaints of deaf customers - The Washington Post

Wells Fargo & Co. has reached an agreement with the government to pay up to $16 million to settle complaints from customers who are deaf, hard of hearing or had speech defects.

The settlement involving Wells Fargo’s nearly 10,000 retail banking, brokerage and mortgage stores is designed to ensure equal access under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the Justice Department, some disabled customers of Wells Fargo were referred to a device for text communication via a telephone line that told them to leave a message, which the government says went unanswered.

The Justice Department says the bank began addressing the customers’ concerns before the government began looking into the matter.

Good. I have an account at Wachovia which is part of Wells Fargo. I have always liked the service at Wachovia but I've heard horror stories about Wells Fargo. When I opened up my account at Wachovia, it hadn't been merged with Wells Fargo at the time.

Wells Fargo sucks. My mom works for Wachovia--> Wells Fargo, and the "merger" (if you even want to call it that) has been absolutely awful for the Wachovia employees. If the employees aren't happy, then the clients are less likely to be happy, too! It's a shame because Wachovia had very, very good customer ratings for many years.

As for the OP, I am not sure how long this has been going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if it started when the merger happened.

Wachovia bought out "First Union" (which I was a member at one time)... but I switched banks after having some problems at Wachovia...

A Wachovia branch bank is right down the street from me...and several months ago, I noticed it changed it's name to Wells Fargo....then not long afterwards, they changed the sign back to Wachovia....

Since Jax has many Navy facilities and families....I believe that Vystar has the bulk of it's members here. Been with Vystar many years, a satisifed customer.

I noticed that you are in FL. FL is the last state for the branches to be converted to Wells Fargo. I'm actually surprised that they even changed it to Wells Fargo in the first place so early. They weren't supposed to do that yet.

That would make sense.

I had problems before the merger even started.

Ah, that explains the direct deposit of $16m when I checked my account balance this morning.
