Jury Duty

i myself will NEVER be able to get jury duty due to the big reason that many of my family members are cops and my dad was a cop for the county police -- so no way in hell will i get chosen for jury duty in criminal courts oh well and mom herself has served on jury dury for civilian cases and shes told me those are SO BORING :laugh2: :laugh2:

I take offense about being called a “dearie;. PROPER TERM IS HEARING IMPAIRED. I AM HEARING IMPAIRED and have been HEARING IMPAIRED since age of 5 years old. I was NOT special educated; I WAS MAINSTREAMED. I thank my parents for that decision for I am from time era that those whom had a disability were “special educated “; when you n all actuality we were NOT “special educated”. Those whom are from my era were thrown in n a classroom and were NOT EDUCATED. We were treated like we had a contagious disease which we did NOT. We are human beings whom ARE UNIQUE AND ARE JUST AS INTELLIGENT IF NOT MORE INTELLIGENT THAN “normal “ people. I GET VERY OFFENDED when people REFUSE TO USE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY. I HAVE THAT RIGHT AS A HEARING IMPAIRED PERSON WHOM WAS BULLIED SEVERELY AS A CHILD. I hold SEVERAL DEGREES WITH MY HIGHEST BEING TWO BACHELORS DEGREES; of which I plan recieve a Doctorate Degree in European History. I am a Veterinarian Technician with a Grooming License (means I am NOT SELF-TAUGHT NOR TAUGHT BY A PERSON WHOM IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH ALL BREEDS OF DOGS. I ACTUALLY HAVE A 100% REAL GROOMING LICENSE.) I am ALSO a Small Animal Dietitian and a Wildlife Rehabilitator (I work with raccoons, possums, squirrels, flying squirrels, skunks, coatimundi, coyote, Fox, wolves.) I actually camped out with 27 wolves and had a spiritually uplifting event with the Alpha female wolf. I learned how to communicate with the wolves (canine language) I was accepted by the Alpha female wolf, she was giving me a bath like she would her own pups. I was told that since Alpha female wolf accepted me I was accepted by the rest of the pack; I even had gotten to howl with my pack. As I said this was a very spiritual uplifting journey to be accepted by an Alpha female wolf WHO KNEW I WAS NOT PERFECT; I WAS PERFECT TO HER AND HER FAMILY AND WAS LOV D AND ACCEPTED BY THEM. To bad humans are not like that. If someone is different then they are ostracized as I was growing up.
Before people respond to questions they should LEARN PROPER ETIQUETTE OF ADDRESSING DISABLED PEOPLE.
As I told you I AM DEEPLY OFFENDED BY THE WORD “DEAFIE”; PROPER WAY OF ADDRESSING A HEARING IMPAIRED PERSON IS “HEARING IMPAIRED”!

Be prepared to be "shot down" here by many members. It's obvious your wonderful education did not include Deaf Culture.

"I GET VERY OFFENDED when people REFUSE TO USE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY. " Maybe YOU should learn the correct terminology to use when conversing with Deaf people. They do not call themselves hearing impaired. That is offensive to them.

BTW, it's also offensive to SHOUT at Deaf/deaf/HoH people.

Who called You a deafie? "We deafies" is an option you can opt in or out, just like deaf or Deaf. Some would take offense to Hearing Impaired as it may imply the person is defect; which isn't true either. If a person is deaf, they get to identify how they want. Don't take offense where none was meant, my goodness. Your education doesn't make you better than the rest. Touting how educated you are and distinguishing that it's "Real" doesn't mean you are superior. If you don't like a term, keep scrolling and save your lecture. You just come off as a prat. Your rant and YELLING doesn't make you right.

Sorry Ladysue, you revived about a 14 year old thread over a commonly used term that you found offensive.

The state of your education or hearing loss etc is unique. I have done both main stream and state issued education as well as a few schools that taught nothing at all. You wont find me having a problem with that. It is what it is.

I believe that there is a deaf culture and a hearing culture. There are some of us who can function in either culture. I am a trucker and had enough hearing with hearing aids to do my job without a terp. Dispatchers did not say much until I made a mistake and they will then scream. Note to self dont make that mistake again. In the old days of the 70's and 80's we had no computers, no internet no nothing. Just your standard pay phone and where possible a portable TTY device. And here we are presented with satellite global communications and many other functions in technology you hardly have to say anything now. (They will tell you want to do he he...)

There is no point in shouting at a HOH or deaf. Shouting does not add any weight to a issue being contested. In fact its a easier reaction to break out and laugh at the person shouting at a deaf. That does not work. Im sorry.

Where I am now in life I consider myself deaf. However I function with the hearing because I must. I am not offended by much of anything anymore. Too many years have gone. However there are failures in either hearing or deaf cultures that can use a remedy. For example we had leadership in MSD for a while (Maryland) that discriminated against a little deaf, alot of deaf, stone deaf and so forth because now we had second generation deaf children of previous deaf students attending. Who were treated like royalty because the leadership decreed it. That particular situation has since been broken up. ALL students served in a deaf insutition meet a minimum standard of being unable to hear plus a few other possible issues to exclude a public education. So the state serves them with a pretty good education. Its not the best nor the worst. They have bigger problems now with aging schools approaching god only knows how many years. So they are to be torn down and rebuilt better.

We all have a life to live. Such as it is. At the end of the road wherever it is for anyone I hope they have had a good run. Flying off the handle and being offended by common things that are unique to the Deaf Culture and accepted as such without offense taken. Shows that there possibly has been no learning about deaf in general. I can sit here and type more in formal writing which will be painful and take too much time for many who is already well aware of it.

Highjacking a dead thread creates confusion. I come in ready to make a case against the court for failure in ADA accomodations to hire a terp and other things as needed so that the Juror can make a informed vote and what to do with the future of the one on trial. Its really important to get right. And the offense by the various words that are used as a form of slang to avoid the longer versions is common in the deaf culture. It fits our language and workarounds. Would have been better served as a stand alone subject in this forum or any.
