I'm not talking about Russia. The original idea behind
Communism was great but it did not work in real life
and it messed up a lot of people's lives. The original idea
is that we should not all be obsessed with money and material
things, and that we shoudl all unite together as workers and
support each other. The government would own all the land,
and people would work on the land in exchange for things such
as insurance, health, schooling, all free. That way nobody would
have to worry about going broke because the gov't would
take care of everybody no matter what.
But it was not Communism that messed it up. It was the people
who were in charge. They got greedy and started abusing
the system. A lot of higher up people liked having control of
everything and they started making deals and stealing money and
lying to people. They wanted to control what people think, so they
took away the free media and punished anybody who told the truth
about what they were doing. Since the little people did not have much money
or power, they could not fight back. Eventually, the system collapsed
because there was nobody to stop the greedy oligarchs (that's the Russian
equivalent of greedy corporate CEO's), from stealing everything they could.
