I've been having pain in my left elbow since 2009...

You probably have a form of arthritis from excessive use of your elbow...Not sure if you have coverage but try physio if not get a good joint cream like Rub A535 or myoplex or something along those lines..it can help a lot..also try ice and heat a combo of the two may help you more than just the ice

I used to have the joint cream...i tried it one time and it didn't really help much. I forget what i used to use.. I use the ice all the time. And its rare that i get to ice my elbow because of school, homework, band. In the summer its just eat, sleep, band and repeat.

right now my elbow feels a little swollen and a little bit tight and a little bit of burning. Also when i rub the top part of the ball around to the bottom, it feels pretty sore and feels like its going to crack. and when i move my elbow down when i finish typing it feels like burning a little.

Self diagnosing yourself is not a good idea...go see a specialist or try physio if they think there is an underlying problem they can refer you to someone who can better help you :)

Everyone else has said it but I'll chime in too - get yourself to a specialist! You are very young to be having that sort of problem. It's certainly possible that playing percussion has made things worse, but to really know what's going on - see a specialist.

my parents are both workers at a hospital, my mom is a nurse that helps patients get their insurance going, and releasing patients out of the hospital, etc. my dad used to be a pharmacist but he just recently got a different job that would let him work during the day and let him come home in the evenings and working on computers that is kind of like being a pharmacist. Both have taken me to the doctor before sometiemes when my elbow started hurting me my sophmore year of winter and said that it was a tendinius or tennis elbow. but shouldn't it not last this long?

the elbow has been going off and on with the pain. Still took ibroprofen whenever it gives me a hard time. And never really thought about going to a specialist.

Definitely see a specialist.

Honestly, doctors are harried, most of them are not specialists, and most doctors will almost automatically go for the most common thing. Young person, aggravated elbow, plays percussion -eh, take two Tylenol and call us in the morning. Next...

A specialist is going to take more time and consider more possibilities and probably do more testing, be it x-rays or whatever. At this point, going on two years, IMHO and all - definitely time for a specialist.

I'll try and talk to my parents about it tomorrow morning. They're probably both already in bed while the teenagers who never sleeps at night goes on facebook, etc :D They're both probably going to say that I'm going to have to deal with it and take medicine and get my butt off and exercise more and not be on the computer.

Well, I can't disagree that those last three things - getting off your butt, getting exercise, and getting off the computer - are no doubt good options for you, just as general principles. Also, eat more fruits, veggies, and whole grains while you're at it.

At the same time - see a specialist. And I'm not gonna put a smiley on that, cuz really - it's time.

haha i'm definitely going to try and exercise more because pushing those big marimbas up hills, they get you out of breath fast! but i'm definately going to try and talk to my parents about seeing a specialist.

Maybe you could keep a food diary and see if have you more pain when eating certain foods. I some a person that has really bad arthritic in his knees and he can't eat wheat and a woman I know has back pains and can't eat potatoes. Foods can be a big part of people pain. This is a bummer that can't play your instrument, I hope you can find some relieves from your pain.
The only thing I can think it trying acupuncture but most insurances do not cover this, and you need to made sure to go good one.
